If I could be sure the problem was just limited to that small area on the bottom of the cases then I'd agree. However, I don't know how he is going to be able to determine ahead of time if the problem that caused this is truly limited to that one small area, or if it's just an early indicator of a larger problem that occurred in the coating process. I think I'd want a firm commitment from H-D that if I accepted a touch up on this one spot, and then I had further problems on those cases, they would replace the engine without any more BS. And a big factor in my decision about the touch up on the bottom is the entire crap shoot of having a dealership completely tear down and reassemble the engine. Personally, I'd rather run the bike off a cliff and collect the insurance before I'd let any of the shops I've dealt with tear down and reassemble my engine.

Harley offers a remanufacturing service for their engines. strangely enough it lists CVO 07 through current model. Seems strange you would need to have an engine under warranty sent in for that service. They advertise a 2 week turn around and they do re-powder coat the engine. I would be okay with them sending the entire engine to Harley for repair. The cost to do it on your own is $4495.00. I'd install a 120R before I pay that for a warranty repair. The fact that they want to keep the bike for 4-6 weeks to replace the tank and fender is reason enough to sue under Ohio lemon law. I have that work order from the dealer so they cant deny the time frame.
Ultimately Harley will have to repair it correctly as they will certainly lose the law suit and I have heard they almost always agree to do the repair rather than go to court. Now its all about the time and BS to get it done.
I have agreed to let them paint the underside of the engine with the understanding that this is a temporary fix while waiting on a permanent solution. At least they ordered the rear wheel so that should be in next week and since I need a new Dunflat on the rear I can save the outrageous cost of a tire change at the dealer.
Harley's excuse for not ordering the tank and fender and just replacing them was that they need to make sure they are CVO parts before they will order the replacements from Gunslinger.
How lame is that, they have the pictures of the bike. The dealer said they would just try to order the replacement tins before they sent the old ones back. I will have to wait and see on that one. There is a shot I can have it all repaired with the exception of the engine case before the end of the season. I'll let you all know how the fight goes.
If I liked the looks of the Victory, I don't, but this has soured me on Harley. and to think I've ridden motorcycles for over 50 years and waited most of my life for a Harley. The number of times I have defended Harley with my friends and co-workers that ride other makes has been too numerous to mention. I think the next time it comes up I'll just say "you're right" and walk away with my head down.
