Detachable tourpack on a 2008 FLHTCUSE3
« on: May 18, 2014, 09:25:02 PM »

My first post.....here it goes.

Short story and then the question......I have had a couple of ultras in the past and was diagnosed with colon cancer and had to let them all go. Now that I am clean and clear, I am back on two wheels and I bought a 2008 FLHTCUSE3. I love the bike but I have to put my touch on it. I've removed the factory gps from the inner fairing (I have the dashpad and mounting hardware and bracket if anyone wants it). Replaced the shocks, added a power commander, had the heads diamond cut and painted and a few other odd and end things. So here is my question....I am wanting to add the detachable hardware to the tourpack and I cannot find anyone who has done this on a 2008. The stealer cannot advise if the standard detachable kit will work as it only shows it is compatible with a standard ultra. I am not worried with the amp under the TP, I've got most of the wiring completed already but I cannot confirm the mounting hardware. Is there someone out here that has done this to a 2008 FLHTCUSE3? I will post pics as soon as I have the entire thing complete due to there are no other threads on this. Any/all help would be greatly appreciated!!

You have a few choices.  You can relocate the amp into one of the saddlebags keeping the stock amp, or you can remove the stock amp and replace it with an in-fairing amp for the back speakers when they are present.  Go to the electronics forum and you can find lots of information.  The reason the stealership shows that it is not available is because of the amp being located under the tourpak.  Just get hardware for the non-cvo model and all will fit, but its up to you to decide how to deal with the cvo amp.

Thanks UAV. I had already made up my mind to put the amp under the fairing. More or less I was looking for someone to tell me that the detachable hardware was all the same. Reassurance, it helps sometimes. Thanks again.

Here is a pic after everything is finished. I've got pics of the process and will post once I've got them all arranged. Thanks again.

Yes...the detachable hardware is compatible with the CVO.  I have it on mine.  You should be able to see it in the picture I have attached.

Thanks guys.....Fed, that's a great looking bike you got. Lol

What license plate bracket do you have on the bike in that picture? I couldn't find one that wasn't attached to a light set.

It's a Kuryakyn set up, but it is a light and license plate combo.  And ya...I like your bike a lot too.  LMAO

DD I really appreciate it and probably would have saved some money if I hadn't already bought everything. I do have a friend with one that wants to do it to his. PM me and we'll go from there. Thanks

Good looking bikes, gents! I've been thinking about doing this with my bike as well. I'm interested in the wiring for moving the amp. Did you leave connections for the CB and Radio antennas?

I cut both of mine and had a radio shop place a splice connector on both of the cut ends so I can just leave them hooked up in the TP, but I did put an under fairing antenna on and I don't ever use a cb. I did tuck the antenna wires from the TP under the cloth insert so they aren't hanging out when I do put the TP on.

My advice, when using the deutsch connectors, either find someone that has the crimping tool or buy it and return it when done. That was tedious for me but I did it.

Pretty easy project. PM me if you decide to do it and I can give you a full parts list for what you'll need.
