Hitch suggestion for 2008 FLHRSE4
« on: May 18, 2014, 09:40:15 PM »

Looking for input and opinions on purchasing a tow hitch for my 2008 FLHRSE4. I'm no stranger to pulling a trailer, having done so with two previous Road Kings and a 1990 FLHS. Seems I had a Chromeworks hitch I just keep moving along to my Road King upgrades. Well, that hitch got toasted in an accident. Just looking for advice from the CVO Pros on the best hitch and lash up for the 2008 CVO RK. Not a lot of hauling room on it and I want to get back into pulling my little Shoreline trailer again. Nice to be in this forum and thanks for your input.

Welcome to the site, I prefer a hidden hitch. The game changed in '09......you have many options!!

I run Bushtec hitches and trailers. Quality equipment and good folks.

Glad to have you with us and may I suggest the Bushtec hitch.  Great quality and can be configured with their mount or traditional ball mount.  http://www.bushtec.com/

I would suggest Bushtec also. Hitch is top notch. I will tell you from my experience over the last couple weeks when it come to the wiring talk to the girls in the back. The guys in front will tell you all they sale is a 6 wire plug/isolator, the girls in back will sell you 4 wire or 5 wire if that is your need.

I have a Bushtec hitch that came off of a 2008 SEUC.  I am pretty sure it will fit a 2008 FLHRSE also.  If you are interested, you can verify with Bushtec that it will fit your bike.

I have the hitch and two draw bars.... one with the Bushtec pin and another with a 1 7/8 ball.  If you would like pics, let me know and I can e-mail a few to you.

No experience with anything other than Bushtec but it is top notch imo.   :2vrolijk_21:

Using these since '08, on 3 different bikes, never a problem. Good people to deal with.

Wow... thanks for the great response. Looks like Bushtec has the vote by far. I'll have to give them a call because according to their website the hitch that would normally fit a 2008 CVO (SEUC also LREBEL), will not fit a 2008 SERK. Yes.. big bold letters scream that out.
So if the folks at Bushtec say no go I guess I'll have a look at MCHITCH products. I'll keep ya'all informed as to the search. Any other comments are certainly welcome. Thanks again.

I ordered a hidden hitch made in Canada and distributed by HitchUSA.com. Not a receiver type hitch, but has a removable ball plate, that once removed can't tell it's a tow hitch, just a chrome bumper. Dealer also told me that Canadian chrome is much better, as it's not as heavily regulated. We'll see. Pictures when I get it.

Hitch arrived today, shipped from Canada, made by Denray Products, American distributer Hitch USA. Chrome looks good, initial look over tells me it will fit and should work well. Stay tuned.

View with the ball plate removed, which fastens from beneath with a couple 3/4" bolts. Pretty heavy duty.

Here's the mounted hitch, with the hitch plate, which is held on to the main hitch frame by a couple of 1/2 inch bolts, set in weldnuts on the main hitch frame. Without the hitch plate screwed on the hitch looks like a stout bumper. Never know. It may save your life. I'm thinking of putting aircraft wire on the two hitch plate mounting bolts. I believe that would be a perfect application.
I also need a trailer light isolator, set into the main rear hitch wiring to take the load from the battery, instead of the bike's signal circuit. The '08 SERK's directional signal module don't like that load drain so much. So, look's like I'll finally get the trailer up and on the road again. Plug for the hitch manufacture, Denray Products, American distributer Hitch USA.
