Everybody loves a Harley
« on: May 19, 2014, 12:27:06 AM »

While touring the north rim of the Grand Canyon earlier this week we stopped in a scenic overlook and were approached by a couple with a little boy.  The father asked if it was OK to look at the bike as the little boy loves Harleys.  I assured him that it would be our pleasure to show the bike to the child and that if he wanted, he could sit on the bike.
The little boy almost fainted with excitement while sitting on the bike and managed to get fingerprints all over my mirrors and boot marks on my pipes but it was a lot of fun.
As they walked back to their car the little boy was constantly looking back at the bike.  I think another Harley rider is in process.

Sometimes we all get caught up on complaining about the various deals with the MoCo but you don't see kids (or most people for that matter) getting excited about a Yamaha/Honda/Victory/Suzuki etc,etc... I think we all get that reaction one time or another and though I don't ride a HD for anyone else, I feel that way also when I see them!

What's neat about this is he will probably never remember the canyon but will always remember sitting on the big harley at the canyon.  Great story, fingerprints and all... ;D

Kool!! We were going from the N Rim to S Rim on 89A. Stopped at a vista overlooking the Reservation & 115deg desert we had to cross. Some Japanease tourist asked if they could take a picture of the bikes. They had a young boy with them and my Son asked if they wanted his pic sitting on the bike. His face lit up brighter than the desert sun. His only comment, "Does it have Air Conditioning?"

Good for you, you planted a Harley seed!  I remember as a little boy the man down the street had an Ariel Square Four, and another guy had a Harley Knuckle Head and a Triumph Thunderbird.  I would spend hours and hours dreaming of the day I would have my first bike.  Now at 67 years of age and some 50 bikes later I still get that exact same feeling everytime I look at just about any Harley or an older Indian or other rare bike.

I'm glad you took the time to make that kids vacation even better than it was. Most folks today are to self absorbed and won't do things like this - the won't get the opportunity to feel the way you and that family did watching that boy's beaming enthusiasm. A priceless moment for sure.

I got to do something similar when all of us "prom parents" were hanging out taking photos of the teenagers this past Saturday, one parent said "hey take a picture of the couples sitting on the Harley"  -- I know brave words when it's MY bike, not his -but I figured why not  :nixweiss: and  the kids enjoyed hamming it up.
