radio problems
« on: May 22, 2014, 09:15:48 PM »

I have 2011 cvosg. My issue is if I turn the volume past half way the speakers start to cut out but only when riding. I changed Amp.,radio and had speakers check. I have played it at full volume parked and it sounds great. Has anyone had this issue/ Was at HD they had no clue. Someone said maybe the volume switch on bars.  ANY HELP  Thanks Paul

Try turning the AVC off and see if it still does it.  The AVC will only affect the signal when the bike is moving.

Thanks .  I can't use the AVC because if I turn volume past half it will cut in and out. Must keep volume down to play.

So you're saying that with the AVC turned off it still does it? That seems to be an issue with either the amp  or the head unit clipping the signal.
I don't have a ready answer but to help others who know more than I -- you said you changed the amp, radio and speakers. What did you put in? Stock replacements or aftermarket? was this going on before the swap? Give some more details and perhaps those in the know will chime in

Your tweeters are no good.

There is a thread in the Street Glide section about bad amps.......I wrote about it there when I had the same problem.

The bike is all stock HD. Put in a new HD Amp. same thing, new HD radio same thing. Hoping to hear from someone that my have this problem.  Was thinking maybe the volume control on bars but the speakers don't all quit at once, they jump around, then they all quit then if I lower volume they will play fine.

Lets see...4 head units, 2 amps, tweeters, iPod module, iPod harness...... >:(

Since you replaced the amp and disconnected the tweeters my guess is your head unit is no good. The stealer should have a good one and put it in to test.

Bottom line is in my situation they just kept changing parts till it worked. Knock on wood so far so good but not holding my breath.

I hear ya...hard to believe but my last 2 head units lasted less than a year. I went threw 4 head units in 3 years......and we cannot ride here in the winter. I THINK Harley just rebuilds them and sends them out again.

If you don't care about the warranty look at getting Iron Cross in New York to replace the part that keeps blowing on these head units.

Guys, I did replace the head unit. Two times now radio was working ok, shut the bike off when I started it had no radio turned starter off and back on it played ok. Maybe time for  aftermarket.

Because it was replaced does not mean its ok....my ride is also a 2011 and I had 4 replaced.

man this is some crazy "poke and hope" troubleshooting steps IMO.

Mr. P

does the sound cut out when you're sitting still in your garage in accessory position?
does the sound cut out when you're sitting still in your garage in ignition position?
does the sound cut out when you're sitting still in your garage with the bike idling?

these steps will eliminate AVC as your issue fairly quickly.

that is exactly what they do with them.
