FLHRSE3 engine stops on low fuel level
« on: May 28, 2014, 09:16:13 PM »

Hi guys,
I'm new here, and I'm from the land down under- New Zealand
I have a problem with my Roadking 07... at low fuel level (4-5 liters in the tank) engine stops. The scary thing is it is stopping on motorway at 100mph with gas in the tank.
Took the fuel pump out... nothing seems to be wrong. Few weeks back I heard some hissing from the tank.
The bike was crashed and I rebuilt it.
Just wanna say it has no problem whatsoever on a full tank! maybe just some misfire... but negligible.
Cheers guys and thanks for any advise!

Check the internal fuel line for leaks.  It's not uncommon for the line to rub and develop a hole, and when the fuel level drops below that hole the fuel pump sucks air.

Thanks grc! Top suggestion... unfortunately I've checked the lines first thing when pulled everything out. Blown some air with pressure... no leaks. Everything looks dandy.
i'm out of ideas

This is along the same line as Jerry's suggestion, but I believe in the '07 models and early '08s that there was a recall about internal tank fuel lines breaking and they would suck air above a certain fuel level.

It may not have been a recall, but I remember that my '08 was involved and it was an early SERK.

I would check into this as a source for your stoppage.

I think you're thinking of the fuel filter housing recall.  And yes it would also allow the same symptoms.  See attached bulletin M1224.

Hi guys, thanks lots for your reply

The fuel filter doesn't have a housing on my bike (it's a unit) and the numbers don't mach with the recall from 08. I think from 08 they put the filter inside...
Yeah... and  I put some pressure in the fuel lines (via my mouth) and and there seems to be no leakage

I'm lost... I'll put back the whole thing and try to see if by miracle everything is fine
But if somebody has any suggestion please hit me
