Is rear brake adjustable?
« on: May 29, 2014, 07:48:48 AM »

The rear brake on my 2009 CVO Springer has to be pushed down a lot further than I would like.  When I wear boots it is difficult to get enough rear brake.  Is there a way to adjust this myself or does it have to be done by a dealer?

Possible some air in the system - the rear brake is easy to bleed.  Something else to try is to go onto the Lyndall Brake site and look for the link to cleaning the caliper.  When they get dirty, the pistons stick and the brakes will have a mushy feel to them.

There is no adjustment on disc brakes. Is this a problem that has always been there or is it new? Brake fluid is a moisture magnet and should be flushed every 2-3 years, so yours is due. Brake pedal travel should remain the same, regardless of brake pad wear, so if the pedal travel has increased, the likely culprit is air/moisture in the closed system. If it is requiring more EFFORT to push the pedal, then the pads may be glazed over from heat, or the pistons may be sticking in the caliper. My first step would be to flush the system with new fluid and properly bleed.

I cleaned the calipers on my last bike according to Lyndall's directions and replaced the fluid when it was about 7 years old, made a huge difference!

HI all.  Based on your comments I had the fluid changed and the pedal feels like it should again.  Thanks for the advice!
