I've toured thousands of miles on Goldwings and they're great bikes.
The CVO Ultra i now own has been great. I love it, but it is no better for long distance touring.
This summer we're riding from San Jose to Glacier, Yellowstone and Crater Lake. Did the same run minus Glacier Park in '07 on a Wing.

That Vulcan is a nice knockoff, but no Indian.

I ride more than 40,000 miles without as much as a hiccup on the Wing. I'm closing in on that with this bike. As far as I'm concerned, HD has the cool factor nailed. But otherwise a toss-up as far as I'm concerned.

That is what the Indian Salemen told me....I started to laugh and he asked me what was so funny......"Christ....the bike has not even been out two full years now.....that means that the average Indian only has 5K miles on them.  I sure as hell hope that you are not see any problem yet."

For me I am going to stay with Harley....at least I know what I am getting....and so far it has been a blast!!!

Now that's funny !  Harley hasn't had a year that I can remember, where they didn't have pile of problems and your thinking that the Indian's haven't had any problem two years, just wait. Two years would be a world record for Harley. Indian did in a couple of years, what it took Harley over a 100.

To put it differently, Indian has gone out of business 3+ times while Harley has produced and sold bikes for 100+ years and even survived the AMF years.

I have had my share of problem with the quality of some of the parts on my bike but I have found no other bike that manages to quicken my pulse like my CVO BO, quality be damned. Does that mean I'm a masochist? Perhaps... :nixweiss:

I've ridden the Chieftain and the Vintage down near Charleston, SC. both were solid performers, the only thing I didn't care for was the bags on the Chieftain.

Comparing those three attempts to what Polaris is doing is Apples and Kiwi Fruit. The new Indian is an entirely new motorcycle...the only thing in common with an "old" Indian is the styling cues they incorporated in the design of bike.  New frame, new suspension, new engine design, new transmission design, new electrical system...the list goes on. If you break down on a bike, regardless of brand, you are in for a hassle if it's any kind of serious problem, whether there is a dealer within 5 miles or 500.  If you're on a trip, it's going to be a PITA...period.

The new Indians are selling. From what I have read, they did extensive testing on reliability BEFORE introducing the bike (a novel concept to HD).  They are here to stay.  They will never "take over" HD sales, but they are definitely going to bite the MOCO in the ass and get their attention.

Indian is 100% a Polaris company so to think they will fold is far fetched. Polaris is a little more divested than HD although both companies depend on us spending money on recreational stuff.

I have no internal knowledge from either corporation but it looks to me that Polaris has a better all encompassing manufacturing system.

Having seen all these issues with my CVO Limited it does not look like HD have a good process and at least the FMEA part is lacking.

Where I see Indian doing well by pulling in sales from other NAH's (Not a Harley) type bike purchasers and other HD buyers who are have been badly burned by HD.  If a current owner of a NAH is looking to upgrade, then I can see them seriously looking at an Indian.  While I don't think it is going to make a serious dent in HD sales, if it shaves only a couple of percentage points off of HD's sales, Wall Street is going to punish HD's stock and changes will be made.  The cynic in me thinks that HD will offshore more of the production as a result to maintain the profit margins.

Exact same question in this current thread:

Thanks, I don't have the power to add a poll to a current question.
