Don't know about a forum but just sold one like it a couple months ago (was my wife's...she loved it but was enjoying riding with me and didn't ride it much the last year of ownership).  I rode it quite a bit the last year we had it.  Great bike for around town or, with a bit of modification, a road trip.  Your wife will love it....congrats.

In 2005 when Melanie had her 1200 Sporty, she belonged to http://www.xlforum.net/vbportal/modules/Jig/index.php She did the research there and I did the work, so I can't say too much about it

Thanks for the replies guys, Haird, she and a friend got there license's so we will see how long this last. she has always been happy on the back seat and I have wanted her to at least know how to ride. but she seems pretty excited about it. gotta put air shock on the back so she can flat foot it. poor girl is short hahaha.
thanks trapperdog, I will check that site out.

I really like seeing women riding Harleys. They look so good on them but lots of horsepower does give some concern.

I'd be more worried about the weight of the bike than how much horsepower it's got.
That Sportie will prove to be a nice bike for her if she is short in stature, I know several women who can ride the he!! out of them and even put some of the boys to shame with their abilities. Who knows maybe she will be taking over the VROD soon  :2vrolijk_21:

I always suggest a fairly tame light bike for the first year of riding until they get the hang of things
The loss on trading up is Much less costly than a pound of flesh and some broken bones.  Had a friend who jumped right in on a large bike and you can guess what happened.  When I re-enter after 20 year of raising kids I started with a 750. I am glad I did.

Royalroadie, i was and have been looking for a used buell blast or honda rebel around here. but ppl have fell and bumped there heads most were $1000 over KBB and needed some type of repair. most of the 80 models rebels have $1500 price tags on them around here. and the early Blast have $2000. i got this for $3000. thats not a typo $3000.00 But i agree, not the bike i wanted her on and she knows that she wont leave the farm with it untill i am comfortable with her on it. i have a shed thats 50 by 100 with a poured pad in it that faces out into an open field. so that is her learning area for now with it and she will be wearing full riding gear and a full face helmet.

yea the weight difference is only about 100lbs between the sporty and vrod give or take a few lbs. she can almost flatfoot the Vrod with the shocks aired down. but granted the Vrod is a country mile longer and raked more than the sportster. she cant wait for me to get the air ride on the sporty so she can flatfoot it.
