Brake Upgrade
« on: June 10, 2014, 06:18:03 PM »

Hey guys I have a 09 SERG with plenty of power but the brakes on the rear are stock and the front has a 21" wheels 2 disc set up. It stopes ok but wondering what it would cost to really get this thing to stop. I'm at 275 and wife at 135 bike gets heavy, then there is the 198hp. Just wish I could get her slowed down faster. Suggestions?

If you don't have floating rotors, get some.  Change your pads to EBC HH Sintered.  Short of major coinage, that's your best bet.

Oh, and if you haven't flushed your brake fluid in the last year, do that.

Does it have ABS? 198hp? Try going slower.

The EBCs bite a lot better than the stock pads.

Dang it you really do have a beast there to stop. Personally I have no problems with the factory setup and ABS. If you ride two up most of the time then braking would be a little different.

Maybe I'll try some different pads next time. Just seems a little sluggish. But its big and heavy.

Drag chute.  Teach the BSR how to quickly repack it after each stop.  ;)

Give the folks at Lyndall a call and see what they have to say about a set of their racing rotors and red pads.  I don't normally recommend racing brakes on a street bike, since they usually don't work all that well until heated up, but there would be no harm in talking to them.

I can't see that skinny little 21 giving much "braking power"! The limit will be reached quickly even with a larger 21" tire. The pads and floating rotors will help the initial bite and power, but your tire will be the limiting factor on how hard you can actually stop. twinotter

Maybe figure out a way to put the procharger in reverse like they do jet engines!

I put the lindal ceramic rotors and matching pads with 3 X 6 piston performance machine calipers on my softail and my buddy on his 2006 duece with stock calipers lindal pads and the ceramic rotors we both feel our braking distance is around half of what it was, an amazing difference I don't see any difference if they are warmed up or not, it's just they never fade or warp when they are hot and after 4 years there is no wear at all on the rotors we both use them hard.

I just want to know how the heck you get 198 rear wheel HP out of a street motor? I'd love to see the spec's on that build!   :o
