FLHTCUSE Windshields
« on: June 16, 2014, 10:18:40 AM »

I am thinking of adding a new windshield.
I would like to know you guys have tried in the way of size and tint.
What to look for.
What to look out for...
Prices and good vendors to deal with.
Thanks

I like windvest. . Great shields and probably more pricy than most. . But they work the best. .
No buffeting and they act 2 inches taller than they are. . I go with dark smoke.

Size/tint - Several different things to consider... Your height (torso), whether you want to look over or thru the windshield, do you want a flat or recurved shield. You'll get members that can recommend a particular vendor but size/tint depend on your size and whether you want to look over or thru the windshield.

Search the Vendor Discount board for windshields to see what vendors offer discounts, then when you've found a vendor you interested in search the Vendor & Customer Service Reports board for that vendor and see if there are any threads regarding them and if they are positive/negative.

I got mine from Freedom Shields. John personally responds to questions, quickly and professionally. After getting my 1st one in I realized needed to go one size taller. He shipped me the replacement one before I shipped back the 1st one. Great customer service. I went with the light tint. It's a re-curve shield and the quality and clarity is sooooooo much better than HD stock

I am 5' 10" and run the Klock Werks 8.5" dark smoke windshield.  My pouches fit behind it.  I've found I get less wind than with the stock windshield on mine and in the rain throws it over me more.  The really windy days I can't tell a difference either.

I'm on my second season with an 11" re-curved, light tinted windshield from Freedom Shields.

After putting a few thousand miles on my '13 CVO Ultra (which came with a 9-1/2" factory shield) I think I should have gone with a 10" version. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy with what I have, and it gives me more protection and less buffeting than the OEM windshield, but I will go just a tad shorter on the next windshield.

I have 3 thousand miles behind my new 8" freedom shield (2011 Ultra). I have only postive things to say about the improvement the freedom shield. Wind noise and buffeting behind the shield is vastly reduced. My girl comments about noises she has never heard...."are the tires supposed to make that noise going around a curve?. I get less dust and pollen in the face, a fact that makes having allergies better and I even observed an increase in fuel mileage.

I wish everyone I dealt with was as easy to talk to as John. He made sure I got the right shield at the right price fast. There even is a CVO discount. The best 100 dollar item I have ever bought for a bike. You can't go wrong

If you're married to the idea of a fixed shield, I've found nothing better than Windvest.

With that said, the Madstad is simply the best shield I've ever used.  It eliminates the vacuum behind the fairing and is adjustable for height and angle.  I'll never use anything else.

I agree with all the freedom shield comments. I had an 8" on my 13 cvo and am ordering one today for my new one. I have a used dark tint 8" for sale if anyone needs one at a big discount :)
