I'm not offended by Happy Holidays. I use it cause I can't remember how to spell Hanaka and I'm not sure if you say Happy Kwanza or Have a nice Kwanza or what, so Happy Holidays works for me. But If I know I'm dealing with someone who practices the Christian faith, I say Merry Christmas. I really don't see what the big deal is. Once upon a time a bunch of Christians got lost on their way to Florida and wound up in Massachusets and founded a nation. As time progress they decided to incorporate into a document for the ages the idea that the nation they founded would welcome people of all religion, color and creed. Now here we are 514 years since the bunch that got lost and 200 something years since their progeny put pen to ink and wrote the most famous document next to the Magna Carta in the US Constitution. One could paraphrase the reference to the Constitution in Lincoln's Gettysburg address in these trying times. " Now we are engaged in a great debate. Whether this nation or any nation so conceived and so dedicated may long endure " Here's what I think. I think God created many peoples. Some white, some black, some red, some yellow and some brown. To each in it's own way he sent a messenger to bring his word to them. That word was different as were the people of God's earth, but at the core was GOD. Always GOD. So we can debate about religion, we can fight about it but at the end of the day we are all God's children and each in his own way believes what the other does whether we can convey the true meaning of those feelings or not. So whatever you practice, at this time of year, we gather together as family and friends and reach back to our beginnings with reverence, love and respect. God Bless all of you !
