Radio quit working, Replacement?
« on: June 27, 2014, 04:27:17 PM »

My radio in my 05 SEEG finally quit working. Can anybody suggest a different radio that will work and still use my Handel bar controls? Need to be able to plug in xm radio using the 3.5 audio jack. Thanks in advance.  Tony

You could send your old one to Iron Cross Audio and have them repair it.

I believe ICA only works on the H-K radios.
It's possible (and apparently fairly simple) to retrofit a Harmon Kardon radio into the 05-earlier bikes. Then you can use 06-up speakers and accessories.

Iron cross only works on HK.   I called them and that's  what I was told. I bet the new Jensen would work great in your  bike.   Check it out on you tube.   Easy install too.  :2vrolijk_21:

It would.  The Jensen radio will go on 1998-2013 bikes.  One issue using it on a SEEG though.

The Jensen radio only has the connector for the standard radio.  The SEEG's stock radio is an amplified radio with an extra overlay harness that powers its internal amplifier and takes the output from the amp'd side of the radio to the speakers (i.e., the overlay harness has its own set of speaker wires).  That overlay harness can't connect to the Jensen radio.

That's not a reason not to use the radio though.  The Jensen has a bigger amp on its own than the SEEG radio does with it's built in bigger-than-stock-amp.  So you'd just not use the overlay harness.  Leave it unplugged.  Then find the "stock" speaker wires (tucked up by the speaker on each side) and use them instead to power the speakers.

Great insight on that Don.  I would do that instead of messing with the stock unit. Probably pay close to what the Jensen would cost.   The Jensen has a ton of features too.

What is the model number on the jensen radio. Sounds like what I need to do. Are you saying that I wont have to get an adaptor to make the hand controls work? Thanks, Tonyt

No adapter anywhere.  Not for physical size nor for handlebar controls.  Bolt it in, plug it in, swap which speaker connections you're using (both sets already on the bike), and turn it on.  Nothing more.

What about on the newer cvo bikes.  Would this be an easy swap as well.  Just wondering about the wiring.

Not a good solution for the CVO bikes nor any other bike running any accessory that would come off the overlay harness.  This radio does not have a connection for the overlay harness.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like the jensen would be the way to go. I hate that it is not a CD player. I guess I will have to buy adaptor to use my portable xm radio. I use the mini 3.5 plug for that. Ill let you know how it come out. Thanks again.  Tony

Tony, you also have the option of looking for a good used HK radio on eBay.  Their failure rates are high enough it's a bit of a crap shoot.  But you could watch for a failed unit on eBay.  They commonly go in the $150 range.  Send it off to Iron Cross for update and refurbishment and it'll then be a solid yet and you'll still have less invested than the cost of the Jensen radio and you'll have a CD player.

You can have yours exchanged for $200 from Radio Sound, they are the original supplier of the 2005 and earlier radios.
