Is there a detailed "how to" for the new compensator?
« on: June 28, 2014, 10:13:58 AM »

I replaced the compensator on my 2009 non-CVO FLHTCU a couple years ago using instructions and photos on one of these HD-forum boards.

I can't find one for the new compensator assy.

Does one still have to either grind of a bit of metal on the iner primary, or remove it (and the clutch assy?)

Also, I kept the old compensator, so I have the part that does not come in the kit (I think anyway).

Anyone here done one on a CVO....care to share your experiences and gotchas?

The new comp is a straight forward set up. The glue( or plunger kit ) does not come in the kit as well if you have a 09 you will need a new rotor . All come with instructions in the box. We have some pictures of it bolted in place on our compensaver site.

I made a glue adapter(plunger kit) from wood dowels and a caulking gun. It worked........... :-\

The "A" version eliminates the two thin spacers (shims) - part "14" in your pdf...  That's the only change I'm aware of.  I don't know if another part got thicker to eliminate the need for the spacers or if the MOCO simply determined the spacers were not necessary.

The adhesive (including the dispenser) can be purchased here:

http://www.chembar.com/adhesives/lord-maxlok-mx-t6/

It's the exact adhesive used by the MOCO...that they don't offer for sale to the public.

On a side note--found one other guy on the forum with the same noise as I have......started when his dealer replaced the comp. He said he would update me when he brings it back to see what they find. If not, I might put another comp in it before MV.

How many ml is in the dealers adhesive kit?  The Chembar site offers 50 ml or 375 ml.

How many ml is in the dealers adhesive kit?  The Chembar site offers 50 ml or 375 ml.

You only need a fraction of the smallest size (375 ml) to attach the plastic tray.

The only thing to be careful about when you use the kit is to make sure you expel enough of the adhesive onto a rag or something to be sure you are getting a good mixture of both parts of the adhesive before applying the mixture to the plastic tray.  When you are sure you're getting equal amounts of both, then apply it to the plastic tray.  Usually with these kits, one side or the other will come out first - so wait until the other side catches up and you're sure you're getting both chemicals before you apply the mixture to the tray.

The shims have a funny (ha ha) way of finding themselves behind the shaft extension gear. It happened to me a short time after I installed the new set up in my 09. Holy chit the noise was horendous. The moco believe it or not warranted it. The replacement was the a and latest version and wa-da-ya kno the shims are excluded now. My primary has never been quieter in 60k mi. I also installed the Baked attitude manual chain adjuster FYI

Funny the instructions for the 42200064A still instructs a person to install the shims?  Even though they are clearly removed form the exploded parts diagram.

42200064A install instructions attached.

Anyone in the MD-DC-VA area who needs the glue I have 3/4 tubes left. PM me. I live in Bowie, MD.
Two 1/2 deep drive sockets did the trick. Needle bearings...like my old lawn boy two stroke wrist pin bearings...
