Navigation Interface Module Part # 76000024
« on: June 28, 2014, 12:55:59 PM »

I've read a lot of previous threads on this harness and am concerned enough that I had to ask the gurus here about this harness.

My buddy who wants to install the HD 660 on his 2011 Ultra Classic was sold this harness kit. Other than the spiffy dash mount, it appears this is a pain in the rear to install and may not be the easiest solution for him.

He wants to have a dash mounted solution and doesn't listen to MP3's etc, just his stereo. Is there a better/easier solution when using a HD Garmin 660 and have it interrupt his stereo? Or is this it?

The NIM is the ONLY way he can listen to his radio and still hear the turn prompts from his GPS. The NIM will automatically interrupt what ever mode the radio is in to allow him to hear a turn prompt when one is available and then return the radio back to what ever mode he was listening to before the turn prompt.

Thanks, not looking forward to figuring out where the different plugs go. Gonna be a long week and a few beers. Anyone have a bookmarked thread on how the wiring goes? I hate HD instructions; they make everything too difficult.

Okay stupid question time.

I've got to take my fairing off for some unrelated work, but would my friends wiring be the same or similar to what HD did to my CVO from the factory? I thought it might be a good reference.

The installation instruction that come with the NIM are relatively easy to follow. The NIM on your CVO would be wired pretty much the same way unless you wanted to wire it so that you can also listen to MP3 songs via the MP3 player on the GPS. In that case you just need to add a Y Splitter and a 3.5mm Male Stereo to 3.5mm Male  Stereo cable.

Jim - do you happen to know if the NIM will work with the new Garmin zumo 590LM?

Not answering for Jim, as he is much more knowledgeable on this matter, but I'm 98% sure that the NIM will ONLY work with the HD Roadtech 660/665.  Not even the regular Garmin 660 will signal the NIM, from my understanding.

You are correct, it only works with a Harley Road Tech 660 or 665.

I need some help troubleshooting the 660 install if possible.

Installed the two HD kits "76000024" and "92115-09A" instructions but we did not get any voice prompts interrupts through the radio which I assumed is supposed to occur. The only item we didn't use was the y splitter because he doesn't intend to play MP3's through the GPS.

Anyone experience this and have a tip or suggestion that I can review tomorrow?

I sure would appreciate any help I can get.

Not looking forward to another evening of fighting the danged chikungunya mosquitos.  ???

Mine speaks through the speakers.  The radio will cut out.  You can push the volume up when the radio cuts out that may help.  There may be a way of adjusting the volume through the settings but i don't have the procedure right here close by.   This could be your problem.

Thanks, I forgot about the separate volume; I'll add that to my checks for tomorrow.  :2vrolijk_21:

Check the position of your speaker switch. It needs to be rocked all the way back so the light on the switch is on.

Make sure you have all 3 volume levels on the GPS turned to 100%

If still no joy then recheck all your connections. Install the Y Splitter and 3.5mm cable to the Auxiliary Input so that you can check to make sure the wiring harness is good. If you can hear the turn prompts when the radio mode is in "AUX" then the wiring harness is OK.

Thanks gentlemen I appreciate the help.

Jim I didn't think about the aux connection last night, so I'll check that also. I wasn't thinking of it as a secondary source for prompts as I had laid it aside since we were not playing MP3's.
