Another new Limited owner
« on: July 01, 2014, 09:06:54 PM »

I had hoped I would have never been in the "rider down" forum and until then, never intended to be posting in the CVO Limited thread as the 2010 was a keeper.  But such is life.

Picked up the 14 last Friday and only have 115 miles on it.  About 25 of those miles I did at the dealer before purchasing and riding home.   It is the first time I had been back on a bike since my accident.

FWIW, here are a few misc ramblings.  Thoughts may change after I get some miles on it.

Out of the box, the 14 is better than my 05 and 10.  It has more power, handles better, and rides better.  I believe the brakes are better also than the 10.

Right hand leg heat. It was 90 degrees on the ride home.  The 14 is cooler on the right leg with the cat than my 10 was without a cat and Andrews 54's..  You are still sitting on an engine but the heat issue is better so far but could change.

I used a Mustang Super Tour and Corbin on the 10..  Corbin on the 05..  This is the best HD seat by far but may not make it on an all day ride.  We'll see.  Daughter sits higher in the back and can actually see over my head and not have to look to the side.

I haven't heard anybody mention the horn but it is the loudest HD horn I have heard.  May not put the mini beast on.

Handlebars probably won't make it as I had HD reach seats on the 05 and 10..   Heated grips way better than the 10-hope they last.

Hope this doesn't change but bike clicks into gear thus far and no clunk.  It would be great if it stays this way.

Doesn't look any different than other silver/orange but here are the obligatory pictures-LOL..

I'm 6'1" and the highway pegs are being changed to Kuryakyn ISO's with the long arms as stock are too far away..

Don't know whether to get another Bushtec hitch or get one from MCHitch.

Last bike picture.  It's a nice bike but not worth $40,000..  My 2010 was a along term bike and would have kept it a long while if something hadn't happened to it.  I will get no use of the GPS (old map reader) and the liquid cooling probably means being at the HD dealers mercy when it needs fixed.  I looked at 2010-2013 used SEUC's and in the end, still liked enough of the other features to buy the 14.  I hope I am not sorry for not waiting on a 15 but I liked the color (didn't want flames again if the 15 were to do so) and in my experience in central Ohio the CVO's never seem to show up until October and I didn't want to wait that long if that were the case even thought they are showed on August 25th for the first time..  Rambling over-thanks for listening.

Harley is getting better cleaning up the wiring on the 14's under the seat and in general.  Haven't looked under the faring yet.  This is anal, but my 05 and 10 had an oval oblong hole in the rear fender where the taillight wires went thru.  A lot of dirt comes thru that hole and is hard to seal up.  The rear fender now has a mostly round hole and I was able to find a grommet at work to fill the hole up.

I used Athens HD and dealt with Anthony.  Bought both bikes (10 and 14 from him).  They are a small dealer still in an old building (not one of the new corporate designs).  Hope they can stay that way.  Last Friday by 4:30 he had sold 2 new trikes, 3 new bikes, and mine-6 total when I left.  Anthony is the only salesman they have and does a great job.  I can't deal with any of the large dealers in/around Columbus.  They want you to drink the Harley coolaide-LOL..

Congrats on the new bike. Thanks for the feedback, it sounds like everyone seems very happy with the 14's. I hope they stay that way. It is much better to read about happy owners than about what happened and what to do about it.

Really appreciate all the kind words and encouragment from everyone-thanks.

OhioDave, Scott, Stu and others really helped me along which I will be forever grateful..

On a side note, the 14 has more sound to it stock than the 10 ever did stock.  Will have to replace windshield with a optically correct Freedom..

Hey Bob - great to see things things worked out for you.
My dealer is the same, small, old school and resistant to change. And they have had a 14 CVO UC in the showroom for a few weeks now. Very tempting in blue, but I'm holding back. Still haven't ridden anything newer then my bike (except for the Live Wire) - and don't want to.

Everyone who rides a, 09 or newer buys one  :nixweiss:
