Bike alarm question
« on: July 05, 2014, 12:43:39 PM »

well the unthinkable happened last night, somebody tipped my motorcycle over. My question is, should the alarm have sounded?  When I woke up this morning the alarm was not sounding.  I tested it and when I lifted it off the kickstand it did sound. Is the alarm designed to sound only when lifted up off of the kickstand and not while laying on its side?

Google "find it now." Get a 45 and wait for someone to do it again!

Its possible it did sound when it fell over but timed out. I assume there is a time limit like 1 minute or so preset.

I thought it is supposed to sound for 10 minutes before resetting.

Bike was outside unattended overnight?  Not attempting to lay any blame.  Just wondering what happened.

Tough news, I hope it works out well for you. $6,500 is a lot of damage.

Pressed for time today. FIN is find it now. There is a vendor on this site that sells it. Among the capabilities is that it can text you when the bike is disturbed. If it is stolen, the bike can be tracked. If they mess with it before pushing it over and you are fast enough, you might catch'em. Of course, a camera would be great too.
A bud used it to find me at a bike event. He found my bike and bumped the handle bar and waited. I found him in short order!

I like the idea of FIN. What did the total installation run you?

Looks like annual subscription starts at $59.00

I was visiting a friend in Salida.  This is a very small town that doesnt have a lot of crime.  Went to bed at 10:30 bike was upright.  Got a knock on the door by a local concerned policeman at 8:30.  I am figuring it was a bunch of bored teenagers.

Had a friends bike fall over where the jiffy stand sank through his black top driveway one time.  It did 7400 dollars in damage to his.  Plus he needed to patch his driveway.  I carry my harley black plastic shoe that sits under the stand for when I park on pavement.   I think I still have a few small 6 x6 pieces of aluminum that I cut out at work to keep in my tour pack for people that don't have one.  I should check to see if there are any left may need to go out to the scrap metal bin at break time and make some more.

But it won't stop someone from tipping it over the other way.

Sorry to hear about your bike and hope it gets repaired quickly.
You may be able to get pre painted parts and do the repairs yourself if your insurance co.  Will let you.  Here in Ohio we are able to do that with 3 estimates.  They usually take the lower of the three and still sometimes send out a insurance adjuster to verify.  They just cut a check for the amount minus your deductible.  Then you also get to keep the old parts which you could send out and have repaired.  There is a vender on here hat paint our CVO parts and from the pictures I have seen of his work he does a really good job.
