i agree, but if the pay is what they are concerned with then maybe they need to find a better job and not take their frustrations out on our 42,000 dollar bikes. no one is forcing them to work for pennys at HD you know what im saying? thats like a brain surgeon not making enough money so hes only going to work on half of your brain lol. im just saying if your going to work on my bike and you claim to be a mechanic then so be it dont cut corners at my expenses because HD isnt paying you enough find another job.

I'm not really trying to hold blame on the worker. To me, the problem is on Harleys end. They should have better wages and benefits which would attract higher quality employees. Lord knows they charge enough for everything to cover it. But no we wouldn't want to cut into those profits.

That's RIDICULOUS! I have a couple recent issues I can share. After my headwork was all done I shipped my power vision to the dealer to tune the bike. I pick the bike up only to find out they didn't tune it at all they simply did a couple wide open pulls to get the AFR and dyno numbers and left the map alone. WTF did I ship the tuner for then? How can a map for a bike with stock heads be ok for new higher flowing heads with more compression??? Jesus.

Another example, on the way home from Indiana I stopped at a dealer to get a poker chip. There was a guy pacing the store. I had a conversation with him. Said he had an appt at 9:00 and arrived 10 minutes early. He looked outside and his bike hadn't been touched. It was 11 am!!!

I have paid my dues many times over 2007 Low rider brand new off the showroom broke down at least 75 times in 18 months with 80K miles on it and it was in the shop for weeks at a time...I ended up suing HD-and settled out of court

New 2009 CVO Ultra Classic broke down on the way home ---took it back the gasket was left off of the oil cooler from factory

The 2009 CVO Ultra Classic just traded in had broke down over 40 major times within 24 months with 75K miles on it...

But Now I got a new one, I just decided every time they have to brak into the casing first major time I am trading it again, I am thinking after 40K miles the way I ride they should take the motor off and chunck it...LOL

I am always surpised to never hear anything from the dealer's POV on our complaints. My dealer has been pretty good over the years. I would also say my bikes have been solid. I do seem to always trade before the 40 or 50K mark. Maybe that is why. I have plans to keep the bike I have now for a long time. I don't have a long list of things I would change or make me happier. I have always been big on doing PMs on all my vehicals and have managed to stay away from most issues. Regardless of the dealership do Harley's last longer than 40 or 50K without major work? I hope so!

What??? You think the dealerships are owned, staffed and run by Harley Davidson?

Said he had an appt at 9:00 and arrived 10 minutes early. He looked outside and his bike hadn't been touched. It was 11 am!!!

I can do much better than two hours and ten minutes :huepfenlol2: .

The following happened on two separate occasions.  It's been several years ago so the names have changed but the shop's reputation didn't get any better for at least as long as I kept listening to the stories.

So back before I gave up on the local dealership lo those many years ago I had an appt at the local shop.  The dealership was notorious for not stocking much so ordering parts then waiting was commonplace.  I'm headed out of town for a week so drop it off on a Saturday under the clearly understood premise that they had it until the following Friday so they could look at it Saturday or Monday, order parts as needed, and hopefully have it all buttoned up by the end of the week as parts would have time to come in.

So I get back on the Friday night.  Call them Saturday morning.  "What's up?" I ask.  "We had to order parts" says the dipstickership.  "Yeah, not surprised," says I, "Got it done yet?"

"No, we had to order parts..."

"We just did that yesterday."

"We had the bike until Friday you said so that's when we started looking at it."

Now, you'd think one such stupid-assed episode of putting something off just because you can even though precisely the opposite had been fully discussed (including a poignant discussion of the reasons why [including exactly what ended up happening])?  You'd think so?  About four months later with exactly the same people following exactly the same discussions exactly the same thing happened all over again.

That second time cost me a trip, unrefundable hotel deposits and some other travel costs to the tune of nearly $1000.  But, in their good grace, the dealership comped a $25 in house debit.

The same shop had done work three different times that left me on foot within 20 miles of their work being done.  They'd damaged painted parts.  They'd sent me out the door with a brand new, just purchased, 2005 SEEG with a PDI so thorough that they missed a saddlebag lid nearly falling off of the bike and that the bike had no gas in it.  I ran out before getting to the closest gas station less than a mile away.

So, yeah, waiting two hours uneventfully, that's nuthin...!   :huepfenlol2:

All that (and more) is why I started always making the time to work on my own.  I might screw up.  But it'll never be as frustrating as dealing with a dealership.

Why would harley care, you keep buying these things. The only way for good product and service is to not buy until they get better.
