Primary fluid leak - CVO BO
« on: July 12, 2014, 03:55:44 PM »

As I am getting more and more comfortable with this bike, I am learning a very expensive lesson: CVO BO does not like to lean too far on the left side. After scraping the primary this past May while trying to keep up with Jimmy doing the NC twisties, I did the same thing AGAIN this past weekend on my way to Culpeper. So...This morning I noticed the swing arm, chrome belt cover, etc. on the left side was covered in oil and there were a few drops of oil on the garage floor right under the drain plug for the primary. After much inspection, I am pretty sure the primary case is bent out of shape or scraped too much and the oil is leaking from around the gasket right where I can see all the chrome gone and bare metal showing through.

SO I have two questions:
1- Should I just make sure the bolts are tightened to MFG suggested torque settings, add fluid, and see what comes next?
Or
2- Should I go ahead and order a new cover (since this one looks like crap now) and gasket, drain, and refill?

If option two, then I have a another question:
Based on the info in the parts catalog, I need to order 60782-06A, $349. Looking for deals on the internet, I can find 60782-06 ($289.00). What's the difference between 06 and 06A?

Bonus question: Should I worry about/check anything else?

Thanks in advance,

For posterity sake:

The primary cover was deformed, causing a leak from around the derby cover. A new cover/gasket and we are good to go!

06A - The 06 was $100 cheaper so I figured there must be a reason for the difference in price and did not want to take a chance with the bike being out of commission in the middle of the riding season.
