Are factory painted replacement parts available...
« on: July 17, 2014, 03:50:33 PM »

I had a nightmare last night that a rich old lady hit my bike in a parking lot and tipped it over.  Got the fairing inner and outer, right side lower with speaker, and right side top and bottom saddlebag all scratched up.

I woke up thank goodness.....

If this happened can my dealer get replacement matching painted parts?

I have the Black and Slate FLHXSE3 (best color by the way).

You nightmare actually came true for me last summer. Lady backed her SUV and nailed my parked bike on the front fender which made it tip over. She then took off like a bat out of hell!!  I did have a witness for the cops but no plate. Insurance covered all the damage, and the shop wrote in a few other things to cover the deductible.   Had to order a new front fender and lower fairings. All arrived in nice new CVO colors. Perfect match. Happy again I was.  Took about 8 weeks to get though. BUt all the body parts are available.

I've never seen anyone with an older CVO, lets say '99 through '05, mention being able to still order and actually receive the painted parts.  Can anyone confirm those parts are also still available?

I would imagine that at some point Harley would no longer support painted replacements for older models.  The vendor they used back in the earlier days is not the one they use on the late model bikes.  :nixweiss:

Availability in the future from the MOCO was one of the reasons I use to justify checking EBAY often for painted parts. So far I've got spare lowers, a spare front fender and a spare front outer fairing. I keep looking for saddlebag lowers but no luck so far....

I remember another thread a while back about "chromaholics"....I may(??) have a problem.......

Prior to my '11 SERG I had an '04 Road King custom, it was green (Yeah, I had heard the rumors about green bikes prior to choosing her) and some jackhole pulled into a 7-11 and across three parking spots to tap my front fender.

I asked HD same question, did they have a painted fender. This was in 2009 and they did not as the green was a rare color. I waited almost 6 weeks for MOCO to run that paint color to get me my fender. I am thinking the CVO colors might be the same issue.

The Moto co. replaced a lot of my 2009 CVO Ultra, fairing, side covers saddle bags, also wanted me to give them my old parts back as they told me these old parts are only licensed, and patented for the CVO....I raised all kinds of Hell, and told them to pay me for them then, as I paid for the new ones....Finally after several weeks the Stealership called me and told me to come pick up all of my old body parts....

They were telling me, they did not want them to be used on another bike....

As I told them all along I have a room of memories with wrecked parts littering the walls, as most people scrap them....I hang them up as a badge of honor...I survived another crash most people never would have walked away from....

I always say the next crash will be my last.....

I would assume at some point in the life of a bike, the MoCo would discontinue a color.  Looking at just a money perspective (not that the MoCo is concerned about money..... ::) ), it would be very inefficient to stop normal painting for a couple older parts replacement of a paint they don't normally carry or no longer paint on a regular basis.

However, we have a vendor here on the site that has found the art of perfecting the CVO color schemes in Xtreme Dimension.  Many of our folks have used him and from the pictures, looks like a perfect match on everything he paints.  I've got a couple rock chips on my faring and Joe will be the person I use for that repaint some point in the future.  So, whether the MoCo can/will paint parts for an older bike, there will always be folks out there that WILL do it.  This wasn't a plug for Joe Z but just making the observation that quality painted parts are available from somewhere other than the MoCo.... :2vrolijk_21:

Im hoping to get that special treatment, as I to was one that was also hit going through a parking lot and was hit by a girl that said " I didnt see you". She back right out of her spot leaving me with no time to get outa her way. Front fender alone I am being told could be up to 6-10 weeks to get. Brand new CVO Breakout with 972 miles on her. They sure are proud of these fenders @ $ 1443.00. Its a good thing I have another bike to ride or it would be one lonnngggg summer. :-\

Short answer is yes.  But there may be longer wait times as the bike ages.

I had lower saddlebags replaced due warranty issue.  Took about 5 weeks, bike was less than 1 year old.

I have a 2014 CVO Breakout that was hit while I was driving through my bank parking lot. She backed right out of her parking spot without even looking behind her first. " Oh No, I didnt see you." Needless to say the bike was hit on the right side, ripping the bars from my hands as I tried to hold onto it as she rolled up on it. Front fender alone will be $1443.00 and 6-10 weeks to get. Call HD Customer Service and she said I might get lucky and get it in 4-6 weeks. Outer primary cover, footrest peg and front tire and a few other things were also scrathed up. I have a concern now about the fork seals that I also noticed as I picked the bike up off the pavement. Adjuster did not note it in his estimate of damage. Could this be that forks could also be bent? Shop I took it to noticed it also but couldnt say till it was ridden if they were bent or not. 4-6 weeks for a fender! REALLY? :-\
