Garmin directions not on radio
« on: July 20, 2014, 09:20:39 AM »

Yesterday on my 13 FLHTCUSE8 the Garmin 660 directions quit coming through the radio speakers. I took the garmin out of the cradle and you can hear the directions out of the unit.

I checked all of the volumes and they are all set to 100%.
The music stops like it is trying to give the directions but you cannot hear them.
I also made sure the NAV/PHONE volume on the radio was turned up.

Any ideas? It worked a week ago when I got home from my trip but would not work after I put the GPS back into the cradle yesterday.

I've had that happen on several occasions.  Problem - contacts are dirty.  Not so that you can see but enough to not make good contact.  Wipe off the contacts on the device and on the mounting cradle and I'll bet it will work then.

The bike is at the dealer right now for a new inner fairing. They are going to check it out. Might be interesting to see what they come up with for a guess! LOL

You didn't bump your speaker selection switch at some point and time did you?

Hmm that is a possibility since I did give the bike a good washing this week. But the music was still coming out the speakers but I guess one speaker option is CB?NAV to headset and not speakers.

Could be interesting to see what the dealer says is wrong! LOL

Correct. The owners manual has about 6 pages of charts for that damn switch.  :o

In my case, that is what I had done also. I managed to get the switch in the middle position. Once I put it back down, all worked, but not after tearing in to the fairing to see what was wrong.

When the radio stops to play and there is no noise push up on the volume button.  This is a different setting that's on the gps

Ok I picked the bike up last night and this is what the dealer told me.

Because I have installed the splitter into the NIM and plugged that into the aux port on the front of the radio then the GPS will only give me directions through the speakers when the radio is in aux mode.

I chuckled and said oh ok thanks for checking it out. Oh btw this guy is one of those HD "master technicians"

The real truth is the GPS will interrupt what ever mode of music is playing, AM FM CD IPOD AUX with verbal directions out the radio speakers IF you have the speaker switch in the correct place!

I am pretty certain that when I cleaned the bike after the last trip that I bumped that switch. It worked great on the way home!

I embarrassed myself at the dealer after I picked up my bike last year. When I was riding it home the music would stop periodically, especially so when I turned. I was convinced there was a wire loose so went back to the dealership the next day and started bitching about it. One of the more savvy guys there took a quick look and noticed the switch was not in the correct position, flipped it and that problem went away. I felt pretty stupid   :-[

Ole "Wrongway" here likes flipping that switch on my bike every few years when I'm not looking. Gets me every time.

I just traded for my first CVO, a FLHTCUSE7. Orange on black. The Garmin will not cut the radio out at all. It only plays on the Garmin. I have checked all the settings and switches, but it still will not play thru the bike speakers. Or eve mute the sound.
Any ideas?

Are you referring to the music from the Garmin not playing through the bike speakers or the directions? If it is the music you refer to you need to install a splitter before the NIM module and plug one cable into the AUX port on the front of the radio. Otherwise the MPS feature of your Garmin does not play through the bike speakers no matter what position your switch is in.
