If I was going to go with a painted lid, it would be like the one I had on my old ultra.....matching the bike's color with a chrome centerpiece.

is this the harley transmission interface cover (part #66530-03)? or somebody else? thanks john

John, I don't remember the part number I ordered, but it looks just like and had the same description as this one (your number)

http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/gma_product.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524448764489&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302287113&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302287113&bmUID=1168891232016&bmLocale=en_US

You can see how well it "doesn't fit", right?

Actually the cover "fits" fine, just have to do some wiggling to get it behind the hose.
If you look closely at my picture you will see the "problem" The cover is made for a transmission side plate with a cable clutch release (see the diagonal bump near the bottom?)
That bump out covers the clutch cable.
On my bike the hose is exposed. I like the way it looks anyway, so it stays.

The only real problem is that you can't get the trans dipstick out with the cover on [smiley=oops.gif]

But the trans doesn't "use" oil. What I do is when I change the oils I leave the cover off for a few days until I am satisfied the level is correct, then I reinstall the cover. Only takes a couple of minutes.

Since I am removing and installing the attaching screws more then normal I ALWAYS use an inch pound torque wrench.

Back to Don's A/C Cover a moment. I put this under "Vendor Discounts" first, but is very approriate here. Just spoke to Dennis of Chromedome (the sculpted eagle horn cover people). Real nice guy, They definitely do not want to put a hole in the center of their design for a standard design HD A/C Cover insert (center hole screw). I asked him to look at the '07 SERK A/C to see if it will work with that cover. I was looking for a MG Alum Eagle A/C insert to compliment the MG Alum Eagle Horn Cover I bought, which would replace the 110" stock insert. They will look into this. The SERK cover is real nice, but I'm not sure there's much, if anything, offered to replace the stock 110" insert. We'll see if they come up with anything. Don, this might be right up your alley! ;) Hoist!

Thanks Don.  Driving home with it the voices kept asking me "is it really gonna look good?", "are you sure this is a good choice?" and other annoying questions.  But as soon as I slapped it on there to take a look I knew I was going to like it.  Its three rounded lines going down on each side complement the ball milled lines elsewhere on the engine real well.  Just seems to match up pretty good  [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif] .

I saw it in the Vendor Discount thread. It looks great on your motor. I hope they decide to make that nice sculpted eagle cover plate like the S&S one on his site. Thanks for Guinea Pigging your cover. Sacrifice for the good of the group. How touching! :'( ;D You'll definitely get the first one! ::) Hoist! 8-)

There's a fine line between sacrifice and wanting to be the selfish bastard whose first in line to get one

Had not had reason to consider this much lately.  Then two or three ideas again in a matter of days.  Received this idea in email a little bit ago.  It was one I'd not seen before.  Damn thing is expensive though.  $400.00  :o !
