Cross over pipe bracket... informational
« on: July 22, 2014, 12:16:11 PM »

Hello all... FYI... !! While riding back from New York to PA this weekend I heard a rattling noise. Stopped at next gas station and found nothing. Once home I looked again…the bracket the holds the cross over pipe under the frame that attaches to the back of the transmission was just daggling there !! The 2 bolts were both missing !! I can see one maybe coming out but not both. So I put 2 new ¼-20 x ½” stainless allens in with some yellow locktite (yellow won’t pull threads out of aluminum).  Good to go now. I checked all the other hardware I could get tools on to make sure nothing else would go politician on me !!  The bike had just come out of it’s 1000 mile service and dyno. Rode 1100 miles round trip before anything happened. So…just check your hardware every now and then. I used to do this daily on the old Pan’s and Shovel’s.
  Ride safe !!

Not sure if mine was left off with service or simply fell off.

Sounds like H-D has another process control problem, similar to the loose bolts for the exhaust bracket at the trans side cover not all too long ago.  One more thing to add to your personal inspection list when you buy a new Harley.  Don't count on H-D or the dealer to catch this.
