Over sized gas tanks ........... how does one get one of those then?

Suspect I might have to locate a stock one and have it modified.

The standard tank capacity will wear you out before you would need a custom sized and made tank.....actually two tanks...a left and a right.  You may want to consider the clearances and comfort issues before attacking this problem.  There are solutions provided in the websites connected with the "iron -butt" association.....most of these involve using up space in the tour-pak and/or the saddlebags.

Thank you for the reply.

Are you saying that the current tank is a split tank with a single filler?

I have an Ultra now and over the last year (16,000 miles) I have come to wish for more fuel capacity. I suspect the 103" will worsen my range so I wondered if anyone had felt the same and gone for enhanced capacity.

       Tony,
That is correct, split tank with crossover/equalizer tube, same as the ultra.......  Your mileage will be worse if you are constantly grabbing handfuls of throttle...... otherwise, the mileage will remain much the same as the ultra.

I think that I may come under the catagory of "grabbing too many handfuls of throttle". My reason for ordering the CVO bike was that it was cheaper than fitting a big motor, starter & clutch to my Ultra. I fried my Ultra engine by doing 1600 miles over two days at 4500+ rpm on my way back from 2004 European HOG in Portugal.

I am also picking up that a Baker 6 speed would be prudent for my riding style.

The 6 speed will help you, immensely.
What let go in the motor on the Ultra?

The motor is still running but has a bad case of "the noises"! I am resisting riding it until it is repaired ready for sale.

The mechanics seem to agree that I have piston slap and that a rebore & pistons will cure it. Unfortunately it is in my nature to go for the biggest. As soon as I heard the news I was pricing up a 124"

I would have thought that the stroker kit to build this up to a stronger than what is offered 103c.i. motor might have been a little less expensive.....and more"bulletproof".

As far as a bigger tanks search the web there are seversl companies that make 6 and 7 gallon tanks.  And I agree that more fuel capacity would be nice.

So is the 103" stroker kit stronger for some reason than the EEG motor?

It was working out more expensive because I would have upgraded clutch, starter and probably 6 speed. It just wasn't worth it on a 2002. But I also question whether the UK dealer mechanics boast many in their number who are up to it.

They are the same parts,  so no its not stronger.  You also get things that you would have to add to your 2002 to get the same bike.  Larger EFI for one 43mm vs 38mm

Magoo are you suggesting that the EFI throttle body on 2002 ultra is different than our SEEG, the parts catalog lists them as the same part # for both bikes ( i believe it's 40mm ) [smiley=laugh.gif]
