Record crank r/o.
« on: July 24, 2014, 07:41:32 AM »

Had one come in last Saturday.
A 95"er that the client said kept on coming unglued, and after 4 attempts on his end, he brought this to us to attend to.
.057" pinion shaft TIR!!!!!!! Did not bother checking the sprocket side.
Valves smacking the pistons, etc, etc, etc.
Going with a 4 3/8" arm, and boring the torn cylinders to 3.935".(107").
That'll put a smile on his face. :)

Good thing it wasn't a new bike under factory warranty.  His dealer and H-D would have probably told him it was within tolerance and sent him on his way. ;)

H-D and me  -  a classic love / hate relationship.  Current score:  love 40, hate 50, bewildered 10.

Worse we'd seen prior to that was an '04 Softail years ago that had .042" on the pinion, .017" on the sprocket shaft, running on 2 different C/L's.
We set that guy up with a 124"/110" Heads/Wood 9F/3.37 gearing.
He was somewhat spooked when we handed him that............ :D

My buddy that works at a Indy shop had a guy that broke his oil pump and instead of measuring runout they say you need the hydro upgrade kit.  Once installed and the bike was started it lost oil pressure not too long after.  He pulled the cam cover and hit the start button and the whole damn cam plate was dancing around and wallowed out all the support plate screw holes(oops).  I lent him my measuring tool but he never measured it.

It's not the broken or damaged pieces, but rather WHY they became that way..........some folks just don't get it. :o

Had a 05 come in at .035 because loss of oil pressure.  Made it a nice 103.
