BLACK D&D FAT CAT HEADER
« on: July 31, 2014, 08:08:15 AM »

Anybody else running these new black Pipes on their bike yet....Less than 900 miles and the heat shields were all rusted up.....When I replaced the heat shields my back header pipe is also crappy looking....The ceramic Coating is terrible

When I removed the heat shield to replace it

Then I noticed the header coating was also baked off

I had problems with my chrome fatcat ruining the rear cylinder heat shield.  They claimed tune of course but my tune was perfect.  I saw 3 other cvos with the same discoloration at different bike nights. I pulled the pipe and sold it. Replaced it with a dragos.  No longer a d & d fanboy.

D&D just replaced my heat shields last week and today they just building me a new header and will send it out, but they did tell me they think it is because of a tunning issue....

I did not know that the tunning would cause the ceramic coating off....something just does not sound right....I have seen this on headers and you could not take a torch and burn it off---something smells fishy to me...lol

I had the same issue with my Boarzilla with yellowing where the clamp attaches the heat shield . They sent me another heat shield but before I installed it I wrapped the header under the shied where the clamp attaches with exhaust wrap (I was told to do that on this forum) which has stopped it from happening again.
Personally I love the performance and sound of the D&D's but understand they are too loud for some. There are many times when I shut off my stereo just to listen to them but I am a freak..

Never had a problem with the sound, just the quality. You shouldn't have to fix that problem yourself. They are well aware of it.  :nixweiss:

Can't agree on that either.  Actually like my Drago's better.  But you know sounds is subjective to the rider.  Performance however i would put it up against the fatcat any day.

I had fat cat before on my 103'' and I have now drago's on my CVO. So from my experience fat cat performs much better, same TTS tuner and same dyno shop. Drago's has mellow sound comparing to fat cat, by the way I ordered new stubby cat, like loud exhausts it's just me  :P

Its all good. Your bike your ears. I ran a fatcat from 2010-2013 so I'm no stranger. I ran both the loudest baffle and quietest.  I prefer the Drago. You prefer the fatcat. Such is life. We can share the road though right? Rubber side down.

I love the sound of a 2-1 on a Harley, but can't get past the naked look on the left side of a bagger. I also hate the idea of carrying around a fake pipe to even out the look so I will continue enjoying them on somebody else's bike instead of mine, lol.

Another option for a 2-1 is  the V&H Propipe. I heard a couple in person and they sound awesome! V&H is quality stuff too ...I had Big Shots on my Super Glide and the Power Duals with Monster Ovals on my old RGU ... both sounded great and no problems with the finish holding up on either system.

Could use a ghost pipe as a hidden stash.  :2vrolijk_21:
