Broke down on road. Nasty noises 2010 SE streetglide
« on: July 31, 2014, 03:13:48 PM »

On the way home from Boseman to Seattle. My motor started ticking loudly. Then rattling , clanking, whistling, howling. When coasted into the dealer (glad I was just a couple miles from it) I let it idle down it sounded like it was going to keep on idling down and quit. It did stay started however it made a he#ll of a clank. Any ideas? Dealer thinks its a lifter. Tearing the motor down on AUG 5. I have three weeks left on esp. any thoughts?

Sounds like the all-to-common late model lifter roller failure.  Since you ran the engine that long after the initial failure, I'd expect a lot of damage that will require a total overhaul or engine replacement.  If the ESP only offers an overhaul of the existing engine, you will need to be very vigilant to make sure it's done correctly.  Just replacing a few parts won't be acceptable if it is what I think it is.  Good luck.

Extend your ESP to the max if you plan to keep the bike.

Extend your ESP to the max if you plan to keep the bike.

But wait to do so only after you find it if the ESP treats this claim well or, instead,  bends you over without benefit of lubrication.

Yes, you can.

For me....every bike I've owned since my 06 Heritage, the extended warranty paid for itself and then some.  A couple of times, more than a couple of times over.

as long as the bike is not 12 years old, or has more than 75,000 miles, you can.  jim palmer was explaining to me how you could actually work it to get 16 years of esp

Sad this continues to happen.
ESP's are losing money on the 110's..  Bad enough when it happens at home but really bad when on a trip thousands of miles from home.

That counts 95% of us out of coverage.  I don't have it.

I wouldn't even think of buying it. Way too many mods on my bike and opportunities for the moco to deny claims.

Found out the whole cam chest is shot oil pump and all. Will be talking to the tech tomorrow to see if any filings in crank. Time to start thinking about new parts. I was thinking of just going with the whole kit from fueling. Let's hear it from u all

Your pan will have shrapnel in it.  Odds are the bottom of your pistons will look like they suffered a shotgun blast.  Insist they tear it down completely....
