Your pan will have shrapnel in it.  Odds are the bottom of your pistons will look like they suffered a shotgun blast.  Insist they tear it down completely....

He said that there was a good size chunk of lifter in the cam chest. I'll be on the phone in the morning. I hate doing stuff like this over the phone

Found out the whole cam chest is shot oil pump and all. Will be talking to the tech tomorrow to see if any filings in crank. Time to start thinking about new parts. I was thinking of just going with the whole kit from fueling. Let's hear it from u all

Pulling the Cam Position Sensor (1 allen screw) will tell the tale...

Never heard that analogy, but will probably look semi-similar to that.
Another cam-chest related mess.......

If I read this thread correctly and didn't miss something, you are paying for this out-of-pocket, right?  I'd suggest you resist the temptation to ignore the rest of the engine and just go with the rebuild of the cam chest only.  If you do that and then the rest of the engine fails thanks to all the shrapnel in the rest of the engine, you will get to do it all over again on your dime.  It won't be the shops responsibility to take care of the stuff they didn't actually replace, or to take care of the stuff they did replace if it is wiped out by another failure caused by other parts.

Btw, why spend all that extra for the Fueling kit?  What's so special about that (don't bother answering, it's a rhetorical question)?

If Harley hasn't already stopped the reman program, you might want to check to see if that wouldn't be a more cost effective solution to a complete teardown, inspection, and rebuild by a dealership.

This is being covered by the ESP. I will be asking to have the
rest of it torn down. I know people that have used fueling a
parts and are quite happy. Just figured I get the whole kit in
one box and be done with it. I'll only be paying for the difference
in the parts

I have a 2011 103" w/SE255's that has the stock lifters & push rods.

Bike has 25K miles.

Should I be taking preventive measures?

Thanks

I would read the posts in this topic about lifter failures. You can see there are quite a few of problems with certain lifters.
A lot of knowledge on this board.

If it were my bike I definitely would.  While the reported problems seem to be worse with the 110's, there have been similar failures reported even with stock TC96 and TC103's as well.  In your case you have added the same cams that come stock in the 110, which many believe increases the probability of failure.  No one I'm aware of has positively identified a single root cause for all the failures, but the fact that Harley changed the lifter design they installed in the 2013 and later 110's leads me and others to believe they think they can at least delay the problem on the 110's long enough to get most bikes out of warranty.  The big difference between the 110 and 103 is the cams and the valve springs.

Just like many of us proactively changed out the POS cam chain tensioners on the 99-06 models to try to avoid the major failures those things could cause, the new albatross for late model owners is the lifter issue.  It seems there is always something, or several somethings, that Harley customers have to spend their own money on to prevent failures.  It's very sad, but until people stop accepting this kind of shoddy junk from Harley it isn't going to change.  Btw, I don't remember having to do any of this stuff on any other brand of vehicle I've ever owned over the past 45 years.  People need to ask themselves if they would tolerate this crap on their cars, and then ask themselves why they tolerate it from H-D.

I went with the Feuling billet cam plate and oil pump, Headquarters Black Ops lifters, Feuling adjustable rods, etc. on Honey Badger. Nothing has failed, and she runs like a top. No nasty valve train noises, either.

H-D lifters continue to be CRAP. Just about any aftermarket lifter is better - Feuling, S&S, Woods, etc. I run Black Ops lifters because they are so church-mouse quiet.

I have a 2013 Ultra CVO with the 110 and reading all these posts about lifter failures does cause me great concern. I have 22,000 miles on her so far and so far she is church mouse quiet. Are you telling me I should be replacing the lifters and using something besides HD parts?

What would one expect to pay to have the lifters replaced?

Thanks

The 2013 and later CVO110's came from the factory with different lifters installed, so you shouldn't necessarily assume you will have the same problem as the folks with earlier models.  So far I haven't seen any reports of premature failures on the 2013's.  If anyone has, it would be helpful to folks like Chief2505 if they would speak up.
