Sticky throttle 09 RG
« on: August 04, 2014, 10:51:38 PM »

Out for a 7 day ride so I'm not around my home town
I'm getting a sticky throttle when I let the throttle go
It doesn't return fast it slowly returns any
Ideas on what's going on and if there any thing I can do on the road
Thanks guys

On a fly by wire bike the grip could be binding in the switch housing.

Not sure how well it may work but you should be able to pop the end cap off the grip and  shoot a little graphite powder in there to help free it up.

The two most common causes of this on a bike with the Electronic Throttle Control are binding of the grip at the switch housing as Jim already mentioned, followed by binding in the grip sensor.  Many people have had one or both of these problems, especially in the first couple years of ETC.  I would loosen the screws on the switch housing and see if that makes any difference.  If it does, make sure you have some end play in the grip (side to side), add a small amount of dry lube between the housing and the grip, and snug the screws back up.  If that's not the problem, odds are you will need a new sensor.

You just keep telling the story to anyone that will listen. A pay it forward like that will earn them extra money in the long run.
