2-1 Exhaust for a 110
« on: August 11, 2014, 10:57:06 PM »

I always hear that a 2-1 exhaust is better for low end tq and overall power due to it's design which promotes better scavenging.

I recently heard from a mechanic that a 2-1 isn't necessarily beneficial in the case of the 110 because of the large valves?

Any of that make sense, or would a 2-1 make much difference on my 110 vs my OEM de-catted and ceramic coated 2-1-2 pipe and 4" Rinehart mufflers?

I have a 2010 SE Ultra with a 110. I had the engine upgraded with larger throttlebody, cam, Headwork etc. I upgraded the stock exhaust with new muffler cores and eliminated the cat. It was a very nice improvement both on the dyno and by my seat. But I wanted more so I upgraded to a D&D Fatcat with a ghost pipe. It was even better with greater torque and hp. Driving experience was even stronger. If max performance is what you're seeking, go to a 2:1 from the start. You'll end up there eventually.

2-1 Exhaust for a 110
« Reply #3 on: August 12, 2014, 07:41:33 AM »

2:1 is the way to go for power.
The claim about the 110 not working with a proper 2:1 is utter balderdash.
I've run four 2:1 pipes and I would strongly recommend the Dragula.
The caveat that I would mention is the factory supplied 2:1 that was available on street-and road- glides for a while; THAT  particular pipe is stupid restrictive on any bike. It certainly is more so on a 110.
Yes, I ran one (decatted  and recor5ed re-cored) for quite while.

+1 on the Drago's Dragula. I run the Drago's S/C/S-4, which is a Dragula muffler with straight headers instead of the stepped headers on the Dragula, and a slightly different collector. Frank said it's better for low-end torque on heavy baggers.

I also found that running cams with higher exhaust duration helps keep the exhaust flow velocity higher in the big collector and muffler. 230-range exhaust duration cams tend to starve the pipe by not staying open long enough to keep the velocity up.

I went with the SE 259e cams, which have 246 intake and 250 exhaust duration. They seem to be a good match for the Dragula. Sounds mean and snarly, too!

Mine made more low end power after going to a D&D Fat Cat 2 into 1 system. I previously had a V&H Power Duals with 4" Rhinehart's.

Yes I'm well aware of the Dragula (I'm also on the RG forum, where Frank is God  ;D), and that is the one I want- the S/C/S-4, like yours Ken. Frank is coming out with a Dragula II, but I think the non-stepped S/C/S-4 is better for low end tq, as Frank told you, which also seems to be the popular opinion, vs stepped headers.

I won't be doing cams at this point, since the engine mods I had done are designed to work with the re-degreed 255 cams, so if I do end up going to the 2-1, hopefully it will work well with my particular combination.

Look nice- when are they ready for sale Frank?

Would you recommend the Dragula II or the S/C/S-4 for my bike?

It's a 2009 SERG, 110 of course- stock 255 cams re-degreed, .030 head gaskets, headwork done but stock valves, light throttle body porting.

I'll attach my dyno sheet from when I was running the Fullsac headpipe and my same 4" Rineharts, just so you can see where I'm at.

Yes the new Dragula 2 will do better than Scs-4
With the new longer design of pipe it will carry curve better than Scs-4 did on smaller motors and new baffle design.
We will be taken pre orders in about 2/3 weeks

Yes that's the numbers- just for sh**t's and giggles, one day soon I'll have it dyno'd again elsewhere and see what the numbers are.

A guy I know had his bike dyno'd at my guy, and later did a dyno run at a HD dealer, and the baseline runs at the HD dealer were about 5/5 lower.

So it may be a bit happy, but it's a great build and shows you don't need to throw a lot of parts at these engines to make them run much more efficiently.

Thanks for the update Frank. How much longer are the Dragula II's going to be? Will the slash cut tips (angle matching the saddlebags) still match the saddlebags, or will the stick out a bit from my extended bags?
