Got around to experimenting with the heated grips today and at first they didn't work. Checked the fuse panel and the fuse was missing. Replaced it and the grips worked fine. Turned the grips off and no more heat. I'm wondering why the original purchaser removed the fuse. Will the heated grips work with the ignition switch in the off position? (I know, could've checked this myself but didn't.)

Also, I have heard of issues with heated grips on earlier models. How have they been holding up on the 2011s?

I have a 2011 FLTRUSE and while my heated grips and seats do work, it's minimal at best. I think the original owner did some wiring himself and messed up a few things. Winter project for me to take a look at them

A not uncommon report has been guys feeling a shock through the bars with the factory grips installed.  Even when still getting some heat.  That would account for someone pulling a fuse.  See if you feel a happy (or not so happy) little tingle first time you ride in the rain.

Still working fine on mine.

My 11 is working fine as well.  Haven't had any shocks when raining yet but ready to turn them off if I do.

Same here, working fine but I don't go above 3 and usually 1-2 with thinner gloves.

x2 Mine work great never been above 4, and that was in a cold pouring rain....kept me in good condition to continue on!
Seat works great too only need the low except for one time, these heaters will keep you from shivering..*S

My heated grips quit working in late 2012 and the repair was covered under warranty. The seat works fine but I keep it on low as the high setting tends to fry my gonads. The grips have since quit working again. I did some research and apparently the heated grips do fail a lot.

I think you will find that no matter what part of a Harley you ask about you will get some positive answers and some negative answers.  Harley quality isn't exactly world class, so the amount of variability is significant.  In other words, just because ten other guys say that their grips have always worked great doesn't mean you won't get ten other guys chiming in tomorrow that their grips are junk.  One of the things I've noted over the years is that Harley is very slow to react to quality problems, but in some cases they eventually improve some parts after the quality gets bad enough to impact profits due to high warranty costs.  If the stuff fails after the warranty then it seems Harley looks at that as a good thing, since they get to sell you more parts to replace the bad ones.

If you are worried that you will continue to have problems and don't want to keep paying forever, you could look at the alternatives on the market.  If you really want heated grips, unlike the situation with some other parts you aren't limited to just what Harley sells.  Do a search for Heat Demons for instance.

From my experience on the last two Bikes I have owned, the amount of time your grips worked properly is about as long as the ones on mine have worked. And both bikes were replaced under warranty once. IMO the Harley grips are just there for added weight. The wife had aftermarkets on her Fatboy and they get so hot on high that you can't keep bare hands on them.

Coming back from the Maine coast this afternoon, temps dropped into the 50s with a light rain. Then my left fingers started to cramp and I turned the heated grips onto 2. They worked great, the cramps went away and no tingles. I could get used to these real quick.

My seat works great. grips on 6 you can barley feel them. I here the new ones from 2011 up will fry your hand even on the lower setting. I think they got lots of feedback and changed them to work better.

I have an 06 and my grips have always worked great. I have 70,000 miles, my only complaint is the rubber strips in the grips is sticky and leaves black on your hands.  Seat heater is great but it should beni have a Corbin seat.

Installing heated Avons on my 06 FLHTCUSE this winter.  Takes forever for the metal/rubber ribbed grips to get warm and you don't even know they're on till you hit 5 or 6.  I used them a lot this riding season in Germany.  Those with new bikes say anything above 2 and their hands are cooking.

With them set at 6 they are warm but nothing to get excited about,
I thought they were broke, My buddys 2012 cant go over 3 with out getting tooo hot
So after reading this Im thinking. Mine may be ok, they just get OK Warm
