I popped the tail light out and measured the voltage, which was good. Tested the led tail light direct to a battery, which was bad.
$250 at my dealer ... a little steep if you ask me. Just pulled the trigger on an after market copy for $89. We'll see if it is any good.
Just and fyi:
Connector pins as facing the rearof the bike
Left most pin = ground
2nd pin = 12v with brake applied
Pins 3&4 = 12v (pin 3 not used on tail light assemby)

Been there done that. Got one on Amazon.com.
Piece of CRAP. The wire leading down into the unit is
not protected from Water.
Worst of all the illumination was Very Poor, think about that !
(when repl with fact. unit, diff was dramatic)
Luckily my purchase had an LED imperfection and sent it back.
That was a whole story in itself, but Amazon protection worked.
Mine was Not DOT or SAE approved, think about that as well.
Shopped the part with H-D discount dlrs and $172 got it del.
(shop just the bulb/light repl. not the whole pkg)
Based on the part # this is the 3rd try for H-D.
