SERK - Aux lights connector???
« on: September 06, 2014, 04:57:44 PM »

Installed caliper mounted fog/aux LED lights.  Trying to connect them to the right aux light switch.  The switch is wired but where is the connector for me to hook up the wires from the lights???

I can see where the switch wires go into a plug...but can't seem to be able to follow that plug to find the end of it....

I removed the headlight to make it easier...  ...and I can't find threads on this either... Help!

Here is the plug to the switch... I disconnected the bottom portion... I thought the I would find two empty connectors inside the headlight bucket to connect the lights to...but no such luck...

I was hoping to find connectors in the headlight bucket that I could connect the lights to... But looks like it is under side panel, below fuse box.

Wires are easy to identify (purple and green). Arggghhhh, looks like no way to get away with wiring to a factory plug without running wires from front to side panel.... That means buying: Touring Electrical Connection Update Kit-69200722 which is just a plug to the acc outlet... seems redundant when I can just tap into the plug in the photo at the bucket end and accomplish the same...

I think the 2013 and 2014 use the same harness, if so there is a way to it I just can't remember howI did it.
Someone else with more  knowledge will chimebe patient.

Solder & heat shrink......but if you use that plug power on low beam only. Rather than messing the plug up, use a fused hot of your own to the switch.

The 2014 bike is HD-LAN, so I think it would be wise to get your hands on the electrical manual for the bike before assuming you can wire directly to that switch.  I don't personally know if that aux switch is similar to the old style that carries full current, or if it is the new style that only sends a network signal to the BCM.  I have a sneaking suspicion however that it's the latter.

There are two different harnesses in the catalog for connecting aux electrical equipment, the one you posted and this one:

http://www.harley-davidson.com/store/switched-circuit-adapter-harness

I think you might need both, but I'm definitely not the expert on this.

Just to be safe I put a fuse inline...

This is the plug to the switch.  I tapped into the light blue wire

using this

Let's test before I put everything back...

All is working fine...

Jerry,

The harness in your link is when you have more than one accessory connected to the accessory plug.  You use that to split power to both items.

I measure continuity between the plug and the accessory plug in the back.  Same wire... and I check the switch, it is your normal toggle switch... it should all should be good.
