Key fob
« on: September 12, 2014, 04:49:21 PM »

If I leave my key fob with my bike in the garage will it cause the fob or bike battery to discharge faster?

No. It only transmits when the bike is moved or the ignition is cycled.

Of course if you leave the fob in the garage with the bike, you will be eliminating the security feature and anyone could ride your bike out of the garage.  Why do you want to keep the fob in the garage instead of in the house?

I leave all of my keys in my cars so I never misplace them.  I always bring the fob upstairs and then when I go to ride again I walk to the end of the house, down 19 stairs, get my helmet and gloves on and realize I left the fob upstairs.  I go back upstairs and get the fob.  I have a mental block for remembering to bring the fob with me.

I wouldn't publicize where I live if I were you.  It appears anyone could not only make off with your bike but could also make off with your cars by just gaining access to your garage.

If you always leave the house by way of a particular door, and there is a coat closet near that door, why not put some simple hooks in the closet for all your keys (and the fob)?  I've used that method for the past 20 years, and if for some reason I did walk out the door without the key to whichever vehicle I plan to use, it's a simple few steps to go back and get it.

None of my business of course, just thought I'd offer an alternative method.

I agree, too easy to open garage doors, with a coat hanger.

I leave my FOB in my bike when in my garage at all times. Never know when I might need to chase down a garage bandit and would be wasting a lot of time if I couldn't just jump on, fire up and take off!

Never had any problems with either battery draining or dying prematurely.

There could be a slight logistics problem if the bandit is riding down the street on your bike by then

All keys/FOBS in the household are hung on cup hooks attached to a strip of moulding mounted inside the kitchen cabinet closest to the garage door. So I can find the keys for any of the fleet that needs to be moved to get to the set of wheels I need/want ... Too many kids still living at home!
