I agree especially about the weight on the front forks. Im leaning RG... costs 3600 more though but when you figure the tourpack; highway pegs; bag guards; heated grips; passenger foot boards instead of pegs; its worth the extra money; that is if you tour 2 up .. I might take 1 long trip a year with my wife.. and if I decide on the RG I will have the tour pack made to detach which will cost me about 1K.
Me, I am on my 3rd CVO Road Glide. To me there are several big benefits to the Road glide fixed fairing.
1. Riding is a cross winds, you do not get pushed around or the shake like a batwing.
2. You do not get the handlebar shake/vibration going by and 18 wheeler at 75 mph, in fact only one finger on the bar is all you need.
3. No weight shift in the parking lot at slow maneuvers.
4. Less weight to move with the handle bars.
5. I feel closed in on a street glide
Air flow and buffeting is much improved with the new 15 road glide.
My wife has had two street glides and like the looks much better. That said she demoed the 15 Road Glide in Sturgis and liked it. She demoed it again in Sept at home. Sept 15 she got a road glide special. Her main reason, much less weight on handle bars and easier at slow speed and tight maneuvers due to that.
The kit harley makes for making the tour pack detachable is 500 dollars, includes everything need. I am making my quick detach, but not using the kit. I do not like the way the kit mounts the plate, and I am going to mount mine in solo position.
Street glide curved plate frame, lighted outer frame for cover then the 4 point docking kit, and the solo mount is running me almost 500 dollars.
To me, most the extras on the road glide make it worth the extra even if you ride solo. Love the heated grips, tour pack is great even for short trips.
