The S&S product (T124 in this case) is very hard to beat. One of the best companies in the biz IMO and they don't walk backwards if something does arise. S&S is at the top of the list for companies I never hesitate to use because they do what they say and they back up what they say. No carny tricks. No smoke and mirrors. No hype and no BS. The longer I'm in this business, the less I see of vendors that rank up there with S&S but as for S&S... :2vrolijk_21:

With S&S you need to run external oil lines, true? That would be a deal killer for me until they work out an arrangement with Harley to allow internal oil lines like they originally had. And their warranty is a year? That comes fast then you are in the same warranty boat as the 120r.

Can still get the S&S 124 with the SE Cases (no external oil lines). 2 year warranty if using S&S electronics and TB.

A year warranty is better than no warranty :nixweiss:

I'm not knocking S&S at all. In fact, I use S&S lifters, pushrods and other aftermarket products and prefer them over the Harley brand. But there is something to be compared and said about getting a 120r crate engine like Steve Cole got, for $4200 complete after discount versus the price for an S&S T124 after discount. Maybe that 120r price has gone up, IDK. I wasn't aware S&S is still selling the 124s with SE cases. Good to know.

Heck, if I could have found a 120R at $4200, I would have jumped on it...

Rheiner,

There are shops that are doing the internal passages, but when you make this modification it is said that you lose your motor warranty completely (have to believe because it it infringes on HD's patent).   One other thing to note is the early 120r motors came with a mso that was street legal then HD made a change and from that point they read race only.

Let's face it NONE of these larger engines are Street Legal and most of the modifications made to the bikes fall in the same category. The MSO from HD does not make it street legal in the eye's of the Federal government or HD.

The S&S 124" engines come with roller rockers, good lifters, Timken bears, 4 more cubes, etc, etc, and yes, a warranty.
Only one choice in our book....

For someone with Steve's skills and set-up, that 120R works fine, but many of us would be paying $100/hour labor plus small- or no-discount parts prices---tear-down, milling cases and cylinders, plugging and welding cranks, installing Timkens, roller rockers, new lifters, etc.  So many of us would be another $2k into it---and zero warranty.  That S&S 1 year warranty looks pretty good when you're broke-d|ck on the side of the road 6 months into 120R ownership.

Even if H-D gave you a two year warranty on a 120R (instead of the zero warranty they offer now), I'd still go with S&S every time.  The folks running H-D have no qualms about screwing over customers on a daily basis.  They put out products they know have serious flaws in design or manufacturing and they do nothing to protect the customers.  On the other hand, S&S has been around a very long time and has maintained an excellent reputation for quality products and customer service.  These guys were some of the first to make fixing the many flaws from Harley into a thriving aftermarket business.  Until they do something to prove otherwise, I'd place a lot more trust in them and their products than I would in anything from H-D.

So true.  MoCo is deliberately decreasing the quality of their parts and designs, since they know most people put less than 10k miles on a bike in 2 years of warranty coverage.

So true.  MoCo is deliberately decreasing the quality of their parts and designs, since they know most people put less than 10k miles on a bike in 2 years of warranty coverage.

And they provide a continue stream of service work to their dealers after the warranty runs out in addition to selling updated and "improved" parts.

And the ONLY way to get them to improve their customer support and products is to STOP buying the P'OS they sell!!!  The only thing they really understand is PROFIT, HD needs to take a serious look at the moneygrabbers at the top of their heap. $30,000+ for this junk, seriously!!
Go buy that nice pickup you always wanted, much more reliable, better warranty.
If sales dropped by 30-50% next year, and they knew it was because we refuse to buy into their continuing policy of profit over quality, maybe they'd wake up or go the way of the dinosaur!
Instead of blindly buying the latest offering, everyone considering buying instead sends HD a letter telling them they'd like to purchase a HD, but can't do to quality concerns.
Its too bad 20K guys couldn't get together and SUE the cheap ba..t....ds. twinotter

120R in here now.......approx. 500 miles on it.
Exhaust guide bores not what you'd want, r/cylinder bore .0007" taper, .0045"-.005" piston/wall fit, both, scar in the r/cyl bore and piston skirt, chambers not equal cc's, pinion shaft, did, however, run at .001".
Naturally, cyl head port ID not matching the 58mm S/E manifold port, ID.
AV&V guides installed, head cc's were equalized/optimized for 662-2's, plus .010" S/E pistons are being used.
Ports are now matched.
Crank is going to be attended to to prevent any movement.
It'll run real nice for a long time once completed.
