New front fender for 11.5 UC CVO
« on: September 23, 2014, 10:28:54 AM »

Anybody have an idea how long it should take a HD Dealer to get a new front fender for an 11.5 Ultra Classic CVO? My local dealer replaced the front tire on my bike and it throw a weight on a cross country trip that put 3 "pimples" in the fender that broke the paint. Discussed the problem with the dealer and showed them the damage. Without hesitation, the service manager said they would order and replace the fender but didn't know how long it would take to get the custom painted part. This was 6 weeks ago and when I asked, after 5 weeks, if Harley had given them an estimated delivery date he told me that he would have to contact Harley by phone and let me know. That was a week ago and I still have not heard anything. I'm beginning to think I'm being hoodwinked.

Based on my experience, you need to push for an answer and give a deadline...if he fails, go over his head.

I had a similar experience - service mgr kept saying she hadn't heard anything, will call HD again and let me know, but she'd never call me back with an answer.  The last time I called, the dealership told me she'd been fired.  As it turned out, she had never contacted Harley and was BSing me.  While I eventually got the issue resolved, I should have followed my instincts when things began to not pass the smell test.

I have waited almost three months for replacement painted CVO parts before. Luckily I was on foreign assignment at the time, but looking forward to riding when I got back. I suggest staying on them weekly.

Dealer replaced my front fender in 2011 & I think it took about a month. You need to get rid of the wheel weights or you'll be spending your dime on the next fender. Your fender isn't the 1st one damaged by the weights coming off. Back then the total was $966. Dyna beads are the way to go! I have 20K miles with Dyna Beads & no problem.

From what I've heard, it's 6-8 weeks for standard paint, and up to 12 for custom

They damaged my front fender on my 2014 CVO RK on delivery. It took 8 weeks to get one delivered painted from the States to the UK

Thanks to all that fed back to my original question. Since I asked I had a young lady rear end me at a traffic light and now I also need a new rear fender and lower left bag. I guess it will be spring before I get all back to new condition.
