Too Noisey
« on: September 24, 2014, 10:21:23 AM »

So I am being told by some neighbors.

So I took the bike over to the inspection center and they read it at 101.5 DB's at 50cm/45 degree angle.

The bike has Pro Touring mufflers and FuelMoto header.

Tonight I am going to go back to the stock mufflers and recheck the DB's.  Anyone have any idea if that might get it down to 95DB's?

This really sucks for me, but I guess it has sucked for many of my neighbors for the last 6 months too.  About a month ago one came over to complain, I tried to accomadate his requested quite time.  Then another casually mentioned it and then last night (my good neighbor) comes and says that some were considering calling the Polizei.  Not good, big fines or impound!

Unless you were leaving the neighbourhood running heavy throttle, them's some pretty poor neighbours..
I always coast down our road to the sit to our development at idle, stereo turned way down etc, I'm sure you
employ similar tactics.  I don't give them a reason to be cranky, and in turn they don't threaten to hassle me...

I'm not going to agree with you on this one. I could care less about my neighbors. I live by a police officer, I don't bother him he don't bother me. Tell them to quit whining. I run a 2-1 pipe and I don't twist on it in residential areas.  I doubt your pipes are louder.

Jesse got to remember the OP is in Europe (Germany) I think they have a little more restrictive exhaust modification (noise) laws. :nixweiss:

I'd be interested to learn if the stock muffler changeover meets the local decibel criteria. Please let us know on this SmokeyJoe. I've had this neighbor problem previously but it was a long time ago...

The stock exhaust should come in down around 82 -85 db as I recall. Most if not all aftermarket exhaust will not come close to passing the current noise regulation of 92 db. It's pretty much a rob peter to pay paul deal with exhaust. You free them up to let the pressure and heat out and they get louder. It's just a matter of how much you can get away with.

Since '09 when cats were installed in the (SE) HDs, I believe that the (stock) mufflers were less restrictive / louder, as the cat does a lot to decrease the sound level (I don't know on European models?). If chancing back to stock mufflers doesn't meet the requirements, you might want contact Fullsac, as he knows a lot about sound levels vs performance. S&S could probably shed some light as they sell in Europe also. Or, an older model (pre-cat) HD SE muffler might fit the bill, as my '05 SEEG is still quiet as a church mouse with > 65k on it.

One benefit (if there is one), I installed the rear True Track.

Yep if I don't get it lowered to pass, I plan to contact Fullsac for some of their more quieter baffles

That hurts my ears just typing that.  Quieter, I am going to be sick

we have a motorcycle attorney in Va & he says that decibal recording devices aren't that accurate for exhaust systems. also that muffler warr is only for 12 months after that packing & guts are breaking down, most cars (stock) wouldn't meet noise restrictions if checked by machine after 12 months. Tom Mc Grath says if we get a ticket to call. he gets them thrown out of court, never had one stick. just my opinion, know it is different in europe & calif.

Certainly is different here in Europe.  If they don't get you for the noise they will rod you and get you for the lack of proper baffles.

I did not start the bike last night as it was so late, in few I am going to work so I will see if it made much of a difference.  My thought is it will be marginal since I am still running the FuelMoto header.  Which I decided last night I will not change out without legal intervention.

None the less, I am pretty excited to see how the bike handles with the True Track.
