Warranty through Zurich
« on: September 26, 2014, 01:02:23 AM »

I was curious if anyone has purchased a used bike with a dealership pushing this company Zurich. $1900 for a 2 year service agreement is a bit steep. I wasn't thinking at the time as the display on the wall as to what it covered shows a lot. Most of that display was for the "new" bikes. I feel as if I just got ripped off as I bought the bike out of state and all. (Still have to cover TTL for 900 that wasn't figured into the sale price even though I was told it was over the phone). Of course I was reassured from the dealer any shop can do the work etc etc. After reading the fine print I realized it covers some odds and ends stuff, but its mainly just a engine and major transmission failure. With just under 3k miles on the bike I cant see myself burning up that many miles to justify keeping this. Hoping someone may have some experience on where to go from here... I've read the 110's have problems, but figured if I take my money and run now I can continue to save and let the chips fall where they may. Thanks in advance.

Seems like a lot of money for a 2 year contract. Personally, I would have banked it on a used bike and hoped for the best. You pay twice as much, for half the coverage for half the time. If your not comfortable with this call them and cancel it requesting a full refund if you just purchased it. Do some more reseach on a warranty for a used bike and if still inclinded to have one buy one locally to you.

FWIW in 8/2011 I paid $1839 for a 5 year warranty above the 2 year year factory warranty with tire and wheel coverage, granted, it was a new bike.

You didn't tell us what year and model bike you're talking about, btw.

If it were me, I wouldn't have bought that service contract in the first place.  But if I did, once I got home and read all the fine print I would immediately cancel it.  I believe in most places you have the right to cancel without penalty purchases like this, within a certain number of days.

The CVO110 has been more problematic than earlier engines, but for much less than $2k you could do some preventative part changing to improve the odds of the engine surviving.  $2000 for just powertrain coverage for 2 years is a rip-off.  If you bought this bike from a Harley dealership, they could have sold you the H-D endorsed ESP for a used bike for 5 years for about $2k, and that covers much more than just the powertrain.

Its a 2009 cvo fat bob with just under 3k mi. I miss quoted the price but still 1800 i was leary on the purchase. Called them up this afternoon to cancel. Hopefully theyll send me the email with the form to sign and send back. I read the fineprint and finance guy asks me why i wanted to cancel it, basically read word for word what i had a problem with. I should have known better. Had a 94 cutlass supreme once with an after market warranty. Timing belt went out and since it wasnt an internally lubricated timing chain they wouldnt cover it. Similar wording with this. Least this didnt make it that far lol.

Either way im pleased with my purchase and cant wait for my gear to get here so i can take er out.
