Recalled Again
« on: September 26, 2014, 09:00:39 PM »

Harley just issued their 3rd recall on 2014 Touring and CVO touring bikes.

This 3rd recall is for the clutch's primary cup (seal) on the master cylinder piston--notice dated 9/23/2014....so, that's twice for clutch related and on e for brake related.

Did a trade on my 14 SG last week for my 15 CVO SG, but hoping this doesn't repeat for the 15s.

Just found out that my bike (along with all 2014 Touring bikes) has a clutch recall, along with potential gas tank leak recall . This just made the press yesterday, but haven't seen any postings here yet. Guess the clutch takes about an hour, and has to have a rebuild kit.    best- jay ;)

There have been some discussions about the clutch recall on here but I've not heard of the fuel tank leak before? Contacted a dealer about my clutch recall and they have had to order a rebuild kit so still waiting.

I had put my bike in for a service yesterday and when I picked it up they said they had fixed the recall also, I didn't even know there was a recall

Fuel tank recall are on the 650's, not the Touring bikes. The second clutch recall is a diafram check and possible replacement, takes an hour max. Rather they did recalls and fixed things. Most bikes have recalls at some point, BMW and Triumph lately as well

Just had mine done recently, was in/out of dealer in less than an hour total time ... quick and painless fix. There's another thread about this issue floating around somewhere ... maybe in this same forum? I forget. Anyhow ... I was surprised to get the recall since I bought my bike later in the year I thought it was already done. The mechanic told me it was when I questioned him, BUT that they recalled the LAST recall as well! When I asked what was the latest and greatest about this one he said they now are using urethane seals instead of rubber.

PS ... Yep, it was in here. Look halfway down the page under "Rumblins of another clutch recall" for more info. Guess your fingers were working faster than your eyes when you put this up, no biggie ... a mod can close this or merge both of them together.

NHTSA Recall No. 14V-537
« Reply #8 on: October 10, 2014, 06:10:09 PM »

Hi all. Just got this in the mail today. I have a '14 CVO Limited which I bought the end on March. Anyhow, this recall has to do with the clutch master cylinder. It states that a tear may occur in the primary cup(seal) on the master cylinder piston. As a result, the clutch may not disengage properly allowing the bike to creep forward. Date on the letter is 10/07/2014
The letter states to contact your authorized dealer immediately to arrange repairs. The master cylinder will be rebuilt at no cost to the owner.

Recall # 0159, NHTSA recall # 14V-537

"The hydraulic clutch system may develop a tear in the primary cup ( seal ) on the master cylinder piston"

I have never seen this many recalls before from Harley... They need to find new vendors for part and move away from parts my in China.

took my cvo rk '14 to dealer for recall, they said have to replace some cylinder where lever engages when you pull clutch to shift gears. I thought it was something down where cable goes in tranny... oh well at least is done no worry.

2014 Touring Recall II
« Reply #11 on: October 15, 2014, 09:00:46 AM »

Did a search for this on the site and didn't find any threads for this yet, but got another recall notice for my 14 limited yesterday, this this is the same condition the first recall was for right after I got it last October I think it was, this is also a "do not ride" recall, does anyone know whats different about recall I and now recall II "fix? I know so far that the CVO part is different than standard and is also the fix for the 2015's? Another hit to the confidence! this make 4 recalls for the early 14's. >:(

I just got mine in the mail as well. I plan on contacting the dealer. I also just started noticing (last week) that I have a little clutch fluid leaking and it goes on the lever. I suspect this leak is the same thing. I will find out shortly.

Watch the fluid, you probably know this, it's Dot 4, melts paint, the cap and gasket may be part of this replacement as there's a difference in what they put on cvo can't imagine what that would be other than chrome verses black if that's where your leak is coming from ?

Just got home and read my recall notice and it spells out a seal Tear can happen on the piston this would be an external leak, I definitely would not ride.
