Ignition/fork lock "hangs"
« on: September 29, 2014, 12:18:45 PM »

 :confused5:
Usually,  I'm not far enough away from my bike when out........to bother with the fork lock.  But yesterday,  I did lock the ignition/forks while shopping at Bass Pro in No. Myrtle Beach.  Came out and unlocked the ign.  but the knob would not turn and the forks remained locked to the left.

Re-inserted the key and locked it again and wiggled it and then unlocked it and this time, it worked.  Thought for a minute I was going to have to call a tow truck :-\

Anyone else have any fork locking/unlocking hangups. :nixweiss:

Sometimes if there is "tension" on the bars the lock will not release - similar to your car/truck ignition when you have to "turn" the wheel a bit to get the ignition interlock to release - usually if you move the handle bars to relieve the tension on the lock system it will work fine.

The worse problem happens when you lock the forks and ignition with the key - then later unlock the assembly with the key the entire ignition switch will "disengage" from the assembly and spin 360* with out unlocking the forks and of course when this happens it also won't allow you to operate the bike --- not fun at all - this happened to mine once and I was fortunate that I was able to get the switch to go back together and function. Others have not been as lucky, requiring a service call and a trailer ride/tow to the dealer.

As far as the power lock function is concerned mine always seemed to be very temperamental until it finally quit working (dealer found broken wires) - it was just replaced last week under my ESP...

Mine has been sticky this whole riding season. I would have to wiggle the forks a little to get it free. Last weekend I needed to remove the switch so I could get the inner fairing cap off. Followed the procedure but the switch came out as soon as I pressed the button underneath. Didn't have to turn the key.

Well after I reinstalled it now works great and turns smoothly. I'm guessing that it wasn't installed correctly last time it was removed at Dealer
