Hey 2012FLTRXSE,
I do not want to hijack Silver-A's topic. What happened to him should not ever happen.
Maybe you can start a new topic...something to the effect "the life of a Hawaiian Harley"...you know maybe from the perspective of the Harley. Might be interesting...might not. ???
...just a thought. :nixweiss:

At the very least I would want my old parts back. You may be able to sell them on ebay or maybe even on this site.

if he was paying for the repairs, sure.  but since he is not paying for the repairs, i don't think he has a claim on the old parts.

For me it does come down to how they treat me and the attitude that everyone displays. It's like this, we had a bad time what can you do to make me feel better? I told one dealer while buying a bike to reduce the sale price by $100 more dollars just to make me feel like a got a good deal and that i was a great negotiator. :D Both of us knew that was small change but he did it just to please me.

I would not let them fix it, but rather get a settlement in cash.

This way you can have it repaired by who you want.  This will also give you a direct link to who does the repairs which is good in case there are any issues after the repairs are made.

This really sucks!!

That would be a bit difficult for me Cat Eyes, first I will have to look for another dealer then going through the hassle of getting the parts then if things didn't go as I'd like, then trying to have things gixed, honestly, I don't have the time to deal with that.
The dealer I'm with is responsible from A to Z about everything, including the settlement and dealing with the transport and insurance companies. All I need to do now is drop the bike off when all new parts are available, pick it up the following day.

The dealer didn't do anything wrong, despite the fact that they had that transport company deliver the bike. Still not their problem. And to be fair, they have been very good managing the situation so far. They ordered all the new parts without even waiting for the insurance company to agree to cover the costs.

I think I will stick with them and see how things would go

I think i would want a new bike and  the  transport company and its insurance would have to
pay up. It was new when they took possession it should be new when you get it back.
Good luck.

That was my first impression and I still would love that.
I just think it would be stretching it too far if I asked for that, after all it's all aesthetic damage, no effect on the bike's performance at all.
Wouldn't know how to approach them asking for a new bike

This sucks big time!   :nixweiss:

While getting a new bike might make one feel better, the damage was only cosmetic.  Replacing the parts damaged would bring it back to where it was before transported.  It would be difficult to convince them to replace the whole bike due to cosmetic damage.

As stated previously, now is the time to ask for upgrades and future discounts.  The dealer will most likely work with you with this.  Also, a loaner is not unreasonable, considering you are still paying for the bike if financed and are not able to enjoy use it while the weather is still decent.

Hope it all works out for you.  Main thing is keep the anger in check, if possible.  (Something I find difficult to do when wronged.) It tends to cause resistance and lack of cooperation on the accused.  By making reasonable requests and not throwing rocks, you will get treated very well and hopefully have your bike back in top shape again.

I took the bike off the dealer the following morning after the damage was reported and a spare parts was generated at the dealer. It's riding perfectly fine.
Guess all I coukd do now is wait for the new parts to arrive

I will give it a try, still not feeling well about them replacing my cylinder head, I am not comfortable having my new engine opened.

All parts will be brand new including a new fuel tank that has already been ordered.

Didn't shout, scream or even talk angrily at anyone who is handling the situation. After all, I don't want my bike to be mis-treated.

Hey 2012FLTRXSE,
Must be pretty cool living and riding in Hawaii...but no matter which island you live on it is only so big. I am thinking regardless of how beautiful it is you must have some itching to ride your Harley to some different scenery. I have never been there...maybe I wouldn't mind going one day but it is not on my bucket list. Is there an inexpensive transport so that you and your Harley can ride all of the islands? What is the life of an Hawaiian rider like?

I'll revert to what I said at HOG Officer Training in Milwaukee two years ago when I was asked "What do I do to make rides interesting?"

Some days we ride clockwise, some days we ride counterclockwise... everyone laughed but I was serious. Take that normal fun route, ride I backwards with different stops.

We've used interisland barge service to get between islands (no interisland ferry any longer), at about $250/RT for bike, 4 bikes per/20' container)... if its only a day trip use a rental. only ship if you're travelling for 3-5 days or more. its a 1/2 day at the pier loading, and 2 hours unloading, on both sides.

Clockwise one weekend, counterclockwise the next?

Sounds funny but thats how it works some weekends...

Its 150 each way to ship by barge  to outer island. plus airfare, plus lodging... gets expensive quick.
