If you want to upgrade your engine, this would be the time.

.....
what upgrades do you think I should demand??
Doubt you would get (or be entitled to any) free upgrades. What you might get is that if any of the parts they are replacing you were thinking of upgrading something that is going to be removed and replaced you might be able to save on/not pay labor to have that upgrade done during this time since the parts will be off anyway.

I agree with the Dr.'s viewpoint They are fixing it so no need to get their backs up. :coolblue:

Sorry to hear about the damage. At least your dealer is going to make it right.

After cooling down some maybe demands as used in my previous post is too strong a word. And knowing HD like we do you may be lucky just to get your baby back fixed in one piece. However it would be nice of them to offer you say a $500 gift card or 20% off of parts, clothing and service for as long as you own the bike our maybe a year our two or something like that. At the very least I would want my old parts back. You may be able to sell them on ebay or maybe even on this site. It would also ease your mind knowing new parts were actually used and they did not just try to buff out some scratches. But for sure if you do not ask for it you will not get it.
Good Luck!!!

The trust factor with my bike at the dealership would be next to zip.

I'd be avoiding them after the repairs and go to another.

I disagree with that, they haven't done anything wrong, it's not their fault the transport guy was a chit head and destroyed my bike, they are the ones fixing it, and dealing with the transport company and its insurance

For me it does come down to how they treat me and the attitude that everyone displays. It's like this, we had a bad time what can you do to make me feel better? I told one dealer while buying a bike to reduce the sale price by $100 more dollars just to make me feel like a got a good deal and that i was a great negotiator. :D Both of us knew that was small change but he did it just to please me.

When it's all over did you feel raped or screwed? I sometimes would like one but always hate the other. :P

I suggest you let them fix it ... that being said ,  it should be all "New Parts" tank and all ... Not just painting the repair!!!!!

everyone seems to agree let the dealer repair it. I see it the other way! you have a new bike and I would want another new bike.if your bike was 2 years old an had 15k maybe, I could understand. of course I have not seen the bike. just my first reaction to reading this! good luck with whatever you decide!! :2vrolijk_21:

I would not let them fix it, but rather get a settlement in cash.

This way you can have it repaired by who you want.  This will also give you a direct link to who does the repairs which is good in case there are any issues after the repairs are made.

This really sucks!!

I think i would want a new bike and  the  transport company and its insurance would have to
pay up. It was new when they took possession it should be new when you get it back.
Good luck.

This sucks big time!   :nixweiss:

While getting a new bike might make one feel better, the damage was only cosmetic.  Replacing the parts damaged would bring it back to where it was before transported.  It would be difficult to convince them to replace the whole bike due to cosmetic damage.

As stated previously, now is the time to ask for upgrades and future discounts.  The dealer will most likely work with you with this.  Also, a loaner is not unreasonable, considering you are still paying for the bike if financed and are not able to enjoy use it while the weather is still decent.

Hope it all works out for you.  Main thing is keep the anger in check, if possible.  (Something I find difficult to do when wronged.) It tends to cause resistance and lack of cooperation on the accused.  By making reasonable requests and not throwing rocks, you will get treated very well and hopefully have your bike back in top shape again.

I really feel your pain.  During my move from Maryland to Florida, the moving company did more than $10,000 in damage to my 11 SESG Kryptonite. New tank bags lowers fairings etc. All new parts from the factory so now worries there. Insurance paid for everything and the went after the movers. Harley dealer with Harley parts I wouldn't worry to much about it, s##t happens.

I've seen a tri-glide totaled to cosmetic damages. (We actually think this thing rolled off the barge and into the water but could never prove it.)

The bike was missing for 10 days during transport, when it was found it looked like it had been dunked in salt water, allowed to drip dry and never washed.

As far as a loaner: Your bike has cosmetic damages and is still 100% ride-able, right?

in 2012 my FLTRXSE was loose in the box as shipped from HD to Hawaii. About $6K in damage, all cosmetic and didn't affect how it drove or rode.

Since I was getting a great deal and I was trading my bike in I was given option to keep riding mine or to take the new one as is and it would take less than a day to correct the issues once the replacement parts were here.

None of my scoots are garage or trailer queens so I rode it home and got a call about 12 days later... (It was already due for 1K service so we dropped it off and picked it up a day later since it was service  plus parts R&R)

Hey 2012FLTRXSE,
Must be pretty cool living and riding in Hawaii...but no matter which island you live on it is only so big. I am thinking regardless of how beautiful it is you must have some itching to ride your Harley to some different scenery. I have never been there...maybe I wouldn't mind going one day but it is not on my bucket list. Is there an inexpensive transport so that you and your Harley can ride all of the islands? What is the life of an Hawaiian rider like?
