I am envious!! great you had some time and such beautiful mountains to enjoy. love it when the quakies change colors (they are quakies right) with the emerald green backdrop of the pines. spent a lot of time in reserve and queamado and do enjoy that part of the state also. that lunch, well I just did not know what it was. guess I am more the meat  and taters (potatoes) type. glad you had an enjoyable ride and day!! :2vrolijk_21:

Quakies .. had to look that up, learn something new everyday. Yes, those are aspens, sometimes call popular, and apparently also called quakies.

Regarding the lunch.. to the left is the blue corn tortillia with meat inside, then the two ovals to the left are also meat/carne .. I swapped the beans and rice (mexican equivalent of potatoes) for the salad and red cabbage coleslaw. The rolled flour tortillia is the equivalent of a bun or roll. The red and green sauce is "chili". It's not like texas chili but more like the stuff you get at taco bell only 1000x better. The State Question in New Mexico is "Red or Green" .. as in kind of chili. When you put them together like I did it's called "Christmas".

Now perhaps you have learned something new today.

Thank you for posting the beautiful pictures!  518 was my maiden trip from Colorado back to TX when I bought my '14 Limited.  Awesome!

Another ride for those interested is HWY 64 from Taos to Farmington (on to Durango is nice, too)  Be sure to stop at the Rio Grande Gorge.  Once you cross over 285 you go into the valley and it's spectacular.

Do you plan on going to Red River in the Spring?  That trip is starting to be a tradition with my brother and me.

Cheers!

I can see myself going up to Red River for the weekend. Always fun when I've done it in the past. Interesting to count the number of Bandito's that show up.
