Won't Start After Gas Tank Removal / Installation
« on: October 14, 2014, 12:45:56 PM »

I know there are many threads like this one, but I did not find one that fit my situation.  2013 CVO RG ~ removed gas tank to run some power leads for an aftermarket stereo.  Re-installed tank.  With the ignition switch in the on position and the run switch on, I hear the pumps priming.  They prime every time.  When I try to start the bike, it won't turn over.  I pulled the plugs and only a slight smell of fuel.

I did not purge the line before hand.  I know the manual says to to so, but I've never done it before, so.....  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you remember to reconnect the electrical connector under the front left side of the tank? I'm assuming it's similar to my SERK? I have never purged the line before and had my tank off 3 times.

I think I got all the electrical connections made.  The fuel pumps scream to life once the run switch is activated.  Guess, I'll have to re-pull the tank a little later.

What I have done before is not to connect the line to the tank properly. It's worth making sure it has clicked home?

I was thinking the same thing... Gotta make sure the fuel connector is fully seated and clicked!

Are you saying the starter doesn't engage and turn over?  Or does the starter turn the engine but it doesn't fire?  If it's the latter, go back and make absolutely certain you got the fuel line reinstalled to the fitting on the tank properly.

The starter turns over, but the engine won't fire.

Thank you ~ crisis averted...I went back to check the fuel line disconnect.  It was fully seated, to the point that it would not click.  I removed it, hit it with some compressed air and reconnected.  Engine fired.  I can't explain it.  My guess is the QD was not properly seated and for reason it would not allow me to depress it any further.  Thanks again.
