No more chrome oil filters?
« on: October 22, 2014, 12:03:18 AM »

Picked up my 2015 Road Glide, get home, start checking it out and lo and behold it's got a black oil fliter, WTF??? At first I thought it was an assembly error, that is until I went back to dealer and saw all the other CVOs (on the floor) now have black filters. Look I know I can replace it at the first service (or sooner) but a $40,000 motorcycle should have a chrome filter.

Haha I feel the opposite about this. Yes I think it should have come with it but I prefer the black on mine. Being behind the oil cooler and the chrome oil cooler cover you can hardly see it and it's a bitch to clean so I tried a black and to my surprise, I like it!

Black dissipates heat faster than chrome.   :nixweiss:

When we changed the oil in the '09 last Friday, my Bud put a black K&N filter on it...

And the K&N has that nifty little nut welded on that makes it a snap to put on take back off!

Have you noticed the passenger floorboards (or I should say "pegs") on the Ultras?  They're black too and no doubt will be replaced with floorboards by every owner that rides two up.

Black is where it's at for oil filters.  Why, why, why would you want a chrome oil filter that draws attention to that part of the motor?  If you want to hide it, paint it/make it black (an old Willie G. phrase).  I do agree, however, that it should come out of the factory with the chrome filter on the CVO.  Just that "extra" effort for that $35K plus "factory custom" motorcycle and you can go back to black at the first oil change.
I guess the MoCo is attempting to increase their profit margin a bit using the black filter (along with the black mirrors on the '15 SESG from the chrome ones on my '12 SESG.......).

Paying more for less has been the Harley way for quite some time now.  It's just been more heavily implemented under current management.  It makes the stockholders and executives happy, and that's all that's important, so quit whining.
