Quick detach tour pack rack missing piece?
« on: December 23, 2006, 01:08:13 PM »

What am I missing to attach a King tour pack? I only looked at the tour pack quickly but the holes didnt line up. Is it the tubular u shaped piece? If so, does anyone have one laying around?

CVO;

Just had a quick look @ mine. There's a metal plate inside the tp (covers almost the entire bottom) which is bolted to the tp. Then there's 4 bolts that go thru the plate, tp & then those holes in your rack. I can't remember if I had to drill the pack for those or not, it's been a few years, but it wouldn't be a big deal if you had to. Let me know if you need pictures & I'll pull it down from the wall tomorrow & take some.

steve

P.S. - For future reference, the Geo Anderson relocating kit does not work w/ this style rack, only '05 & newer.

Before you get to far involved with the installation you may want to take a look at this thread - 04 Tour Pack Rack. My original rack did the same thing as depicted in this thread/photo's and I had to have it replaced with the '05 rack under warranty. To my knowledge this was a common problem w/that rack and the reason the MoCo changed the design.

I inspected my pack when that thread first appeared - had the same cracks. Due to lazyness etc, I never replaced it. Since then the cracks haven't gotten any worse & I load the sh$t out of it! Tempest in a teapot I figure.

Dood, I remembered that thread when i bought this off ebay and had the guy send me pics of the underneath, it is clean and no cracks, but thanks for mentioining it. I just dont see where it attaches and dont want to drill, I think I"ll get the quick detach new one and it seems to have the whole attachment pipe to just bolt it on. Check this picture out, see the tubular piece on top? that piece fits into the molded section of the tour pack and then bolts on.

That's the one I have now. Also when they replaced mines under warranty they had to drill new holes to make the '05 version work which me ended up having extra holes in the bottom of tour pak. Luckily (if you can say this was luck) when the re-attached everything the tour pak started cracking where the new holes were. They had to end up replacing the bottom of the tour pak (minus lid) also. Still was able to use the old one just had to wait for painted part to come from MoCo. With that in mind, and the known possibility of defect occurring it may be wise to go to the '05 version.

The rack your daughter resized for you is the same rack I have for my 2004 SEEG.

Part # listed for 97-later is 53276-04

I have an old fiberglass and a new plastic tour pack and both of them work on that rack

Bungy is right. You have to remove that plate to mount the pack to the rack

Good luck

hello;  all ,  i  just  went  threw  this , all  you  have  to  do  is  drill  the  4 holes  in the  fiberglass  tourpak ,  it  already  have the  indentions in the  bottom..  BUT  YOU  DO  HAVE  TO HAVE  THE  PLATE ON THE  TP BEFORE  YOU BOLT  ALL  DOWN TO THE  RACK , BECAUSE OTHERWISE YOU WILL  CRACK THE BOTTOM OF THE TP IF YOU DON'T  HAVE THE PLATE IN IT..  THANKS , JEFF

I've been looking into getting an 04 seriously.

Thanks

The 04s did not come WITH any tourpak.  You had to order one to get one.  I chose the King pack, because I use it seldom, but when I do, I want the large size for touring.  Hope that clears it up.  The 05s came with the chopped pak.  I'm glad I didn't wait.

By the way...when did they start making plastic tourpaks?  Any details on that?  I smashed my old king pak in August, and it was replaced in October or November.  Would it be plastic now?  Any benefits to that?
