2014 CVO Limited Ignition switch removal
« on: November 01, 2014, 12:23:33 PM »

Anyone know the process for this? I'm not finding a release button on the bottom like the non CVO models? Also, not finding a section that covers the CVO ignition in my 2014 touring models service manual.

Why do you want to remove it?.  On the 14's and later, if you want to remove the inner lower fairing panel, it is slotted around the knob/switch so you don't have to remove the ignition knob as in earlier years to remove the lower inner panel.

If that is not what you want to do, I do not know how to remove the ignition knob.

It would not be in the touring service manual it would be in the supplement service manual for the CVO of your bike type. I am not sure what you are trying to remove, but I believe it is the fork lock, since you did mention the button on the bottom of non CVO bikes. It is not a switch, but a fork lock. To remove the fork lock you remove the main fuse, remove the dash panel, disconnect the lock connector, and remove the screws that hold in the lock. If you are speaking of the run/stop switch which is on the handlebar (and is the switch) than that different.

Yes, on the HD-LAN bikes that part is called the Fork Lock, and the parts diagrams don't show a separate knob like they do for the 2013 and prior bikes.  If you mess it up, as best I can tell looking at the parts catalog you will get to buy the entire assembly, including the keys and locks for the bags.  Only $612.49 MSRP, what a deal.

Look in your shop manual under fork lock, not ignition switch, and see if that doesn't lead you to the correct page.

If that is not what you want to do, I do not know how to remove the ignition knob.

I replaced my handlebars, so needed to removed the lower switch panel. I did manage to remove the panel without removing the fork lock. Yes, I did see in the parts cat, only a complete fork lock is available. Even still, I'm not sure if it is possible or not to remove the chrome "knob" for lack of a better term. If I would ever want to, does anyone know of a way to remove it without removing the entire fork lock assembly?

For those interested, here is a pic with the new bars. Not sure what my permanent solution will be for the mirrors. Is it possible to add the non CVO type mirrors? (As the CVO doesn't have the holes to accept them.) Also still want to do a little better brake/clutch line routing.

What a brutal job... Time for about 4 Advil and a Flexoril...

It's all one piece, you can't just remove the knob.

flip the mirrors under the bars and see if that works for you. If you're looking for the SG style mirrors, they can be added but you'll have to drill the holes in your inner fairing.

You love wrenching for sure. That's no easy job! You can afford to have a shop do it, I'm sure with a beemer and cvo in your garage:)

Love the bars.  I believe I am too feint of heart to try that one for myself.

As for the mirrors, these little units may do the trick.  Downside is holes in the inner fairing.
