Rest assured that repair will fail on the bench.  Unless the owner B/S'ed us and actually made a different repair other than JB weld. Will know more in a week or two.

Almost fell out of the chair when I read about the JB Weld! It did make me literally LOL.

I haven't kept up with this post and good to see all the other progress made.

He obviously did not think about or have a clue of the shear moment force that is evident from the weight of the oil filter being cantilevered off of the engine block the way it is.
There is no way that fix is sustainable.

Just a update to the madness.  So I interrogated the owner of the monster truck build specifically about his repair to the broken filter casting. Info came forth that cleared some things up. I feel a bit better about this thing staying together after talking to him. What he did to re attach the snapped off oil casting was to spline the oil passages with custom made, threaded sleeve's which when screwed in pulled the two parts together with a special high heat and pressure epoxy which he uses in repairing steam boilers!! Then to lock all this together there are a set screws for each sleeve. All of this in on the inside and can be seen once the filter is removed. So the worst that can happen is it will start to leak. At least the filter casting wont fall off and eviscerate the bikes blood all over the road. Just waiting for body work from the painter. The bike will be black and blue with white stripes. Will look awesome.

It appears there was some thought put into the reattachment rather than just smearing on some epoxy resin and expecting it to bond the two surfaces together.
It will be interesting to see how things turn out.
I hope for the best.

I agree with "lots of thought put into it" as it looks like this individual probably knows a bit about high temp/high pressure repairs.

Still, if it were mine, I believe I would have gone with the proven repairs known to work many times in the past instead of experimenting with the unknown on my bike.  However in this case, it's his money, his bike, his decision.  I guess he/we will see what happens down the road.

This reminds me of a time when a buddy of mine changed the cams in his bike while I was offshore and when I got home he tried to tell me that his bike had more power because he had purchased some of those split fire spark plugs. LMAO

A bit of a update to the Monster Truck build.  More body work coming back from paint.  Should have the rest next week.

Another.

Looks like its coming along. :2vrolijk_21:

But looking at your plate...3COW2 could not help thinking what it stands for....is the 3 for the $ and the 2 for 2nd mortgage which would then mean ..."cash cow second mortgage".... :nixweiss:

Or is it just Sunday morning and I am overthinking this and the plate was just handed to you by the Drive Center....lol.

Its not my bike, I'm just a casual observer and  reporter of this build. That is a interesting way to look at it.  The owner is spending a fortune on the minster truck. That front rim with tire was $3000,00   :nervous:   Will explain the plate theory to the boys. Will get a good laugh for sure. Cheers.

Well seeing that you are also in Toronto I will keep an eye out for it and maybe see the final product in person. :2vrolijk_21:
