knob broke off the rod...the rod is just sitting inside. I think I can drill into it and use the drill bit to pull it up and out of the housing because there is nothing holding the rod in place but the rod is like a key so I'll have to twist the drill bit with my fingers to clear the rod through the tumblers....might take a few minutes but I know it will work. I just bought a brand new knob with keys on ebay for $60 bucks too
So the ignition switch itself is exposed. Why not just take it off the bike and turn it upside down while shaking some? Might get lucky.
Is it broken flush with the top or below the top of the tower of the ignition switch? If down inside I'm not sure that drilling it will help much as a bit inside the shaft still won't have any purchase or leverage to turn it. If it's at the surface I'd try a Dremel and put a notch in it to turn it with a screw driver.
Good luck getting it sorted. Just an FYI you can buy the knob and order it with your key code so the fork lock and the saddlebags still have the same key.
